(Archived 2022) The thread in which we talk about games we are currently playing

No idea why but I started a new Dark Souls III run. Currently chilling outside the first boss waiting to be summoned so I can help out.

Played some Rez Infinite in vr today. Wonderful.

I feel like I hit ā€œAā€ during that voice line once and the line came out seamlessly as ā€œAnother one bites the Yupā€ and it’s been that in my head since that day.

I’ve been waiting for this perfectly cromulent moment to say that I didn’t know why Erik had a move called Half Inch until I was watching Call the Midwife with my partner and a Bobby accused a nun of ā€œhalf inchingā€ something. I immediately shouted ā€œHalf Inch! It’s rhyming slang for pinch! That’s a move that [the blue haired guy in the game I’m playing] does!ā€

Iā€˜ve been playing the card game Hearts online. It’s a neat game but the more you play of it you realise itā€˜s not about winning, it’s about the friends you should be making on the way.

@ā€œBluntForceMamaā€#p49244 oh shoot! They should have given him a cockney accent instead of that bizarre… Long Island… thing

@ā€œukigusaā€#p49217 never a bad time

Stage 6!! GOD HAND

I needed a little break from the harsh sand dunes and dense mechanics of SMT V, so I replayed through Abzu this morning, and itā€˜s just such a beautiful experience. This is my third playthrough of it, and every time I boot it up, the art direction impresses me more and more. The giant schools of fish and the tiny details in the environments feels like an impressive technical feat even 5 years later. Every time I play it, I go in thinking I’m going to collect all the seashells and meditation points but I still end up missing a lot of them. I personally feel like it may be 2-3 areas too long at the end… Itā€˜s not a game to rush through, but by the time >!you gain the ability to walk, the puzzles feel a little monotonous and slow to complete.!< But it’s still thoroughly compelling and a great experience to have.

It makes me want to play Ecco the Dolphin.

@ā€œTradegoodā€#p49326 yeah it's good as heck. i played it with my kids earlier this year and they both loved it. love a game you can complete in a long sitting

@ā€œfridgeboyā€#p49293 I have heard it said that Erikā€˜s accent is supposed to be some kind of Icelandic. I thought it sounded New Jersey-ish myself, but the actor’s name is literally Gunnar so I guess he would know

@ā€œGigaSlimeā€#p49336 I have heard it said that Erik’s accent is supposed to be some kind of Icelandic. I thought it sounded New Jersey-ish myself, but the actor’s name is literally Gunnar so I guess he would know

A friend of mine married an Icelandic guy who spoke English, Erik's Icelandic accent sounds like, well, an Icelandic guy who learned perfect English and almost completely eliminated their accent. Like, if that's an Icelandic accent, then I've been to Iceland multiple times (on a connecting flight to Europe _and_ back!)

I bought Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order in a recent sale on PS4 and this has to be one of the worst performing games I have ever played. It was pretty okay for the first few planets only having some bumpy framerate.

I then went to some evil planet and the texture which was the subject of a cutscene (some engravings on a rock) didnā€˜t load in for a few seconds.

Now I am on the wookie planet and its so poor. Theres a bunch of elevators where the game just pauses for a good 10-15 seconds. The worst was an elevator up to a roof top fight. It paused just before the top, with the music swelling and then on unpause I get to the roof and its a bunch of stormtroopers and wookies just standing around next to each other. The troopers would only unpause when I attacked them. I died on that fight waited the customary 30 seconds for the respawn. The second time there weren’t any problems except for the ending cutscene where a bunch of Npcsā€˜ armor was popping in and out.

I’m using a base PS4 which probably explains most of the issues but Iā€˜ve always heard Sony had pretty strict compliance, I’m surpised this got through.

This game has nice environments with a lot of detail, but the gameplay feels pretty unpolished. Its a similar feeling to the uncanny valley effect where everything looks so great you expect the feeling to match. I'd describe the general movement as achey.

Played a bunch of the remaster and damn, as a JRPG enjoyer this is pretty much the experience I should have played when I was a teenager. I digged those kind of weird games that were really dope on the soundtrack, with lots of cool dungeons to explore and demons to adhere to my collection. While I feel some of the level design decisions were kinda repetitive sometimes, I feel like the solutions and the different scenarios were quite diferent and cool from one another. I enjoyed dungeons like the one in Ikebukuro, and there are some fights and demons that are really damn cool || like Matador itself || (spoilers from Ginza on forwards). The combat is pretty enjoyable, and I feel the weakness system and the auto combat mechanics are really chill and comfy (in the sense that JoJoestar talked about comfy mechanics that seem or are something we got used to). There are some bunch of things that donā€˜t feel right to me, but the whole package, the demons, the character designs and music… damn, it’s cool, honest, it wants to be serious, also it wants to troll you sometimes… I donā€˜t know how will I be talking about the game once I’m done, but hey, while this is far from perfect is comfy, earnest dungeon-crawler JRPG that would have appealed to me anytime.

couldn't resist the new HOI4 eastern europe focused expansion.

it's going great

This took some doing, but I am very pleased with the floating mana dispenser I cobbled together (referencing this tutorial):

As a side note, I’m really enjoying the characterization of the Fiends! These skeleton boys are just thrilled to fight you.

While hanging out with my nephews for Thanksgiving, I gave the new Halo a spin.

That game is a delight. I am not a fan of competitive shooters, but I'll jump onto warzone on occasion because it's the only game a close friend of mine plays and it's an excuse to chat/hangout with him every once and awhile. I would never, ever play that game solo. That or really any FPS games that i've experienced in my adult life. But Halo... I really wanna jump in on my own.

Mentioned this to homie of mine and he went in on Halo saying "It totally looks like **2004, I'll pass**"

What's wrong with 2004??

Cruis'n Blast. This is a good time, fun time game.

I don't know what happened or what would be funnier, that I maxed out the continue counter, or I somehow by coincidence used 999 continues

Load times are so slow on Forza Horizon 5 Xbox One X (not Series) that I’m playing with a book in my lap and reading in between races/ any menu selection at all rather than watch my avatar ā€œflossā€ or whatever. It’s actually pretty synergistic.

Still playing Death Stranding, and…

@rootfifthoctave keep an eye out for a new Strand Contract request (whatever that does..!)
