(Archived 2022) The thread in which we talk about games we are currently playing

Started Lost Judgement last night. Seems pretty chill and fluid on the PS5.

@“fridgeboy”#p49082 his dub voice took some time to grow on me but his Japanese voice is great!

I just finished Dragon Quest 2 (mobile). I started this back in the spring when I was looking for a mobile game to play, and then when my circumstances changed I played the rest of the game in short occasional bursts over a long time. Maybe because I was content to chew on the game for such a long time, I didn't think the game was very hard at all, contrary to its reputation. I did need to look up where to get one of the sigils though. Was this a case of modern rereleases smoothing out the difficulty curve?

Good game but I ended up liking the purity of the dq1 grindfest better. Every story beat of that game emerged organically out of my war of attrition against the stats (ever honest). dq2 hadn't quite figured the trick of telling me a lie that I would enjoy falling for. Will play 3 or 11 next. I haven't played any other dragons quest! Not married to doing them in order

Do III next!! Not necessarily because it is in any way important to do them in order but because there's a little tiny bonus fun part to doing the first three specifically in order.

yeah your best move at this point is to complete the Loto trilogy

@“baftaboo”#p49096

I recently did the same exact thing, going through 1,2,3's mobile port. I looked into it when I played through 2, and it seems like 2 had some major difficulty changes to make it a smoother experience. I know in particular that the stats and AI of companions were not really working as intended in the endgame and that got fixed up a bit.

I also second finishing up the trilogy with 3. It's a huge step up from the first two, which are decent already, and some really fun callbacks to the first two. There is also the remake of 3 coming out, which could be good to wait for if you're looking for what will hopefully be a definitive version.

Oh yeah the 2d-3d remake does look gorgeous. Gorgeous enough to wait for an unannounced release date? The classic gamer conundrum

Farming Simulator 22 seems cool. This is my first farming simulator so old hands will certainly have a better sense of the game‘s quality than me. There are 3 maps available: A french vinyard style one, a german ruhr valley style, and an American upper midwest. Went with the midwest to start with: nice semi-desolate map. Playing on “hard mode” and could only afford a few of the many farm plots available for purchase. I bought a farmstead up in the hills in a forested area. Unfortunately there’s a nature path running through my land which means npcs come strolling through all the time disturbing my solitude. But I'll deal with it. Going to plant canola (game starts in august) then work on clearing some forest (will pile logs in front of the nature trail to block it) to expand my operations to include either chickens or beekeeping.

I was joking the other day that the music in DQ11 is mid but that was before I heard the boat music. Damn that’s a great tune. Sounds like I what I thought the music in FF4 sounded like in 1993

@“fridgeboy”#p49145 First time I heard the boat music it absolutely blew me away. That and Heavenly Flight from DQVIII are absolute masterpieces, not just of VGM but of music as a whole. Let's all take a moment to thank the longstanding series composer, Hatsune Miku, for making such gorgeous music that we can appreciate without any cognitive dissonance

@“Funbil”#p49151 yeah some glimmer in my memory is that the dragon quest composer is both very old and also maybe a scumbag?

@“fridgeboy”#p49152 Oh! I didn‘t expect to be the one to have to break a ton of news at once. I’ll start with the bad:

Koichi Sugiyama was, on no uncertain terms, a war crime denier, a racist, and several flavors of LGBT+phobic. Gross guy! It still baffles my mind how people sensitive enough to make games like Dragon Quest were able to tolerate him. You'll notice I said “were able to tolerate him” - past tense.

The good news is: he died earlier this year! lol. You can catch up with the rest of the forum celebrating this in [the Dragon Quest thread](https://forums.insertcredit.com/d/433-dragon-quest-thread/274). So before too long, we will indeed be able to enjoy Dragon Quest music without any moral compromises.

@“Funbil”#p49153 holy shooooot I did not know any of that. Holy crap.

@“fridgeboy”#p49159 some would say this sort of information is often purposefully not addressed directly!

### G… G-GOD HAND…!!!

Stage 1 on Hard

I'm blown away by how much of a difficulty spike it is... I thought I was hot shit

@“Syzygy”#p49163 Once I get Heel Drop and Drunken Twist back it is over for these demons but until then I am gonna be hitting my head against the wall.

I don’t usually post here (mostly because I was intimidated by the 400+ unread posts lol) but it’s about 2AM and I just cleared out the four Oni in the Ikebukuro Tunnel in SMT III and wow that was a fun enough time that I just had to share it. I managed to only get wiped by one of them (waltzed in cursed and hilariously susceptible to Force damage like a friggin’ idiot), but I managed to make it through that marathon of a last fight pretty much unscathed! I learned the supreme utility of the Dekaja Rock on the fly (I had kind of been ignoring items) and only realized after the fact while referencing a guide that ||you can differentiate the true Ongyo-Ki from the mirages by observing his shadow during a full moon||! How would you know that?? That’s some real schoolyard-level knowledge, right there. Anyway, I also want to say that I <3 Arahabaki and Sarasvati and they are my best demon friends (BDFs).

Been playing Baba Is You again, level creator update came out a week ago. User levels are cool and all, but the update also came with 150+ new levels by the dev, introducing new rules and objects! I already encountered some really hard ones. Also went back to the main game and managed to make progress on an area I was stuck on, after years of not playing. Of course, I got stuck again not much later but I'm having fun!

@“Snowdecahedron”#p49209 WHAT!!!

Played a few minutes of Evil Within 2 and Myst over xCloud. Audio and video out of sync in EW2, and this pull-down buffering effect every time I moved the camera in Myst. Didn't like it!

Full disclosure: I'm using Canadian internet (100 megabit down, on paper).
