Ah, the latest chapter in the Nikki series

That’s one hell of a trailer.
As someone whose primary activity in FFXIV was taking screenshots in gpose, I’m intrigued!

Seeing a lot of ā€œFinal Fantasy VII Rebirth exposes games industry profit problemā€ and I think that’s cool. Almost makes me want to follow Night Sky Prince again, but I’ve done well to avoid Rebirth spoilers so far.

Ok so that Silent Hill 2 remake… I think my problem with it is capcom did that whole remake thing just too damn good. They remapped old characters with real people splendidly (mostly) starting with dmc5. SH2r faces look amateurish I feel, especially considering Silent Hill games have some top shelf faces. Maybe casting problem. I don’t know. sh3oldmanheadshake.gif

the dilemma with SH2 is that it doesnt really have any angles to thoroughly remake as far as I can tell because it’s basically a straight-ahead aesthetic experience that I dont thnk will significantly benefit from much elaboration. The comparison to the REmakes is a useful way of looking at it:

GC REmake - mechanical tinkering, QoL, and application of strong aesthetic but basically the same game
RE2make - meaningful elaboration of survival and environmental mechanics, and different to be its own thing
RE4make - diminishing returns because while it’s an accomplished game, it’s visually a bit duller, and the already more or less fully elucidated mechanics of the original are just re-shuffled

What are you going to do with SH2, which has little mechanical structure to tool around with, and (as you say @KennyL ) if you mess up the atmosphere/aesthetics in this particular case, you might botch the whole thing. Better to leave it alone. I’m sorry bloober team I have betrayed you…

Yeah, the earlier previews of the Silent Hill 2 remake focused a lot on the beefed up combat which maybe misses the point, and the faces feel off, yeah. The latest gameplay footage does seem to capture the atmosphere when walking around and looking at stuff tho. I ain’t excited for it but I guess I’m open to it being fun in a cover song way. Reckon I’ll give Bloober a shot when steam does its summer sale to see if I like their stuff. Maybe Observer or Layers of Fear

I think this is the Bloober to get by a mile

Is Observer cool? Nothing about Bloober’s whole house style (or lack thereof, sorry Poles) has ever appealed to me, but this is the one I’m a little curious about – I do like Rutger Hauer a lot, but I was afraid this looked a little too ā€œguys who have seen Blade Runner.ā€ Still curiously on my Xbox wishlist, though

if you approach it with the same b-movie type appreciation you’re extending to Cyberpunk then it’s worth playing although $29.99 is asking a lot in todays economy so would caveat that I recommend it on sale

yeah and they were not up front about this leaving players to find out at the end of credits. Possibly due to a genuine lack of understanding why people would be dismayed by it rather than an attempt to deceive, but they seem to have taken the feedback to heart which is appreciated

whoa, hot damn, I missed this in the original announcement, but Garage: Bad Dream Adventure is available in English on the US eShop for Switch on June 6, and so is Yeo’s Fading Afternoon (which we knew was coming, but I never caught a release date before seeing it in my weekly-ish eShop dive)

(when I’m trolling the eShop, I like to play a game in the New Releases and Coming Soon sections where I count how many shovelwares it takes to get to a piece of software that seems to have legitimate intentions – today’s record was 24 shovelwares)
