@“tomjonjon”#p120244 good game! I played this on Apple Arcade when it came out there. My favorite memory was playing it while connected to the car speaker with some friends, jamming to it, and being yelled at for messing up!
I have a question for you human beings - is there a general awareness of whether FFXIII is better to play on PS3 or 360? I‘m hoping they’re round about equal because I have the first two on 360 already. They pretty much look the same to me but maybe there's some secret knowledge.
@“exodus”#p120395 from memory, the main difference (other than some Digital Foundry style pixel hunting and pointing at the screen exclaiming “oh my GOD that shadow has three pixels more jagginess in it, unplayable!!!”) is going to be the minor inconvenience of swapping discs.
I wonder if the disc-swapping is fixed via recent xbox (X / S) backwards compatibility stuff.
@“Reverse Kaiser”#p120312 i have no idea what's going on here but i support her regardless
was it FFXIII on xbox that prompted that first ballot HOF forum post? do I recall correctly?
@“yeso”#p120403 yup, some truly delicious and deranged stuff around that time

@“sabertoothalex”#p120404 I love this shit. I still see lots of weird cringe console warrior shit on twitter but I don't see passion like this anymore
@“sabertoothalex”#p120404 yes!!
@“rejj”#p120399 I'm here to report that multi-disc backward compatible games do not require disc swapping on Xbox One or either of the Series consoles. As far as I can tell everything besides disc 1 of a game is worthless, disc 1 works as both the key to download and play the game.
Also while I'm at it I'll mention that FFXIII is 4k on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X, while FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns run at 60fps on and both Series consoles.~~Xbox One X~~
Edit: I think I'm wrong about getting 60fps on XIII-2 and Lightning Returns on Xbox One X. My memory says one thing, but the internet say another. Figured I should mention that since I see someone considering a One X purchase, haha.
I‘ve been considering getting an Xbox One X recently actually for all the back compat OG Xbox/360 stuff, they’re pretty cheap post-Series launch. Wanna play that Lost Odyssey!!!
Thanks all!! full speed ahead with xbox versions for me then!
@“exodus”#3 Pretty sure it‘s best on PS3, but don’t let that stop you. Also welcome to the thread lol. There's a recent DF Retro video about it in their PS3 series. Check that out if you want something to fall asleep to.

YO!
So I played myself into a mostly unwinnable corner in Shining Force. I'm in the third or fifth battle of Chapter 7, so almost the end of the entire game, and I haven't been egressing at all to gain exp., also I didn't notice you can advance classes until all my characters were over leveled a couple battles ago. This means I now have a ton of level 1 characters that are being 1-shot and doing 1 damage, gaining only 1 EXP per fight. So this was really bad.
I tried using a Shining Force save editor, but since the saves on my cartridge are .SRM format, and different from emulator .SRMs, it's not compatible with emulators.
Eventually after much trying the past couple weeks, hours of research, I realized my flash cartridge has not only a *save state* feature which I am totally against using in all but the most desperate circumstances, but also a built in Chat Engine.
So I found some old Game Genie cheat that makes your characters gain a single level with each fight. Thank tha lort that this cheat existed out there, because 99 out of the 100 other cheats I saw were totally not useful at all for my case.
So I'm going to level my guys to around level 10-14, because level 10 is what they give you the samurai character at this exact point in the game I'm stuck on.
Praise jeebus y'all. I'm finally going to complete Shining Force, and get past this six month retro-slump where I've only played modern games, to the detriment of my soul.
**I got my mojo back baby!**
upgraded my PC and I never thought I‘d say this….but….I think I know what ray tracing is. It’s basically the same as HDR if I'm not mistaken.
Over the last few weeks I played through Star Ocean: First Departure. Pretty cool little game and it’s nice to see a version of the beginnings of that series. I definitely appreciate playing an RPG that I can clear in under 30 hours, feels all too rare these days.
@"leah"#p120146 I’ve had this sitting on my Wii U since I got it a few years ago, I should get to it soon!
played about 90 mins of Digital Devil Saga and ran into the same issue i had with Nocturne over a decade ago.
encounter rate is too high!
i dig the apocalyptic gloomy atmosphere but i got kinda lost in the first dungeon and by the time i made it to the boss i was already tired of the rock-paper-scissors "target weakness" battle system. admittedly i was a little bit high, but i think even if i hadn't gotten lost i would have fought about twice as many random battles as i would have preferred.
Finished shining force and now finishing up Etrian odyssey 1 HD
I haven‘t had time to play much of anything, but since I’m vacation for a couple more days, and with the announcement of something related to Dragon Quest Monsters, I‘m playing Dragon Quest Monsters!
This game is an all-timer for me and I never beat it as a kid so I figured it’d be really nice if I could.
Who knows if I actually will, but I'm having a pretty good time.
Playing the “Delocalized” hack that is more like “Relocalized” since it kinda fixes some weirdness in the initial localization and whatnot.
I've played a little bit of that remake when the fan translation was released, and idk about you guys, but it felt a little _weird_ as did the sequel.
Part of it was probably that it felt a little too big.
Those first two DQM's feel like tiny little babies in a sea of tiny little babies on GB.
I think I also did not really like the switch to non-random battles, I have this problem with DQ11 as well.
It just feels wrong to me, ya know?
Or maybe I'm just a freak.
I went to the grocery store wearing a Final Fantasy XVI shirt. The dude at checkout said to me, “They're making another one? I thought 15 was all right, but it was a sausage fest, man.”
@“aeroza”#p120843 I just can‘t even imagine somebody knowing about FF and then being surprised that they’re making another.

@“aeroza”#p120843 I thought 15 was all right, but it was a sausage fest, man.
I swore ignis cooked a sausage that I could drop a photo of here but apparently not. very disappointing.
