Hello - I/we will be embarking on a new Forums challenge: circumnavigating Planet Earth in Microsoft Flight Simulator Full Realism style
Those of you who have seen my occasional MSFS post will already be aware that I am the owner-operator of a fake airline based out of Menominee Regional (KMNM) in picturesque Menominee, Michigan
In keeping with my weird need to maintain the fiction of operating a fake airline, we will be starting our trip around the world from Menominee, and will be flying the one plane the company owns: The Kodiak 100.
We’re going with this particular plane because I know how to fly it (kind of), it can land/take off from pretty much anywhere, and it’s got solid range for a turbo-prop. We also have insurance for it and the airline’s other planes are leased. It’s in good condition and we have a decent amount of flight hours left before it needs to be serviced.

As stated, we'll be operating under FULL REALISM rules, meaning if I crash or critically damage the plane and die, then that's the end of our attempt. If I crash or critically damage the plane and live, I'll have to fake fly back to Michigan and try to fake buy a new plane. FULL REALISM also means I'll be doing all the button pressing stuff myself, and equipment failure is possible (though unlikely)
I’ll be streaming the flights or at least attempting to, then posting recaps here as well. Please feel free to visit the stream as I go. It'll be pretty chill, just flying around and seeing the sights etc
I don't have any particular itinerary in mind other than generally going from Michigan east to Newfoundland, because that will put the westernmost of the Azores within reach of the Kodiak, and from there we can go wherever
So, open to suggestions about sightseeing generally, and, if one is so inclined, you can help with more specific flight planning using [SimBrief](https://www.simbrief.com/home/). Feel free to give me waypoints and approaches and all that shit. Might ignore some of the specific procedures in the interest of time, but otherwise we'll be as realistic as possible
A couple of caveats:
- Flights will be like 2-3 hours max because I have things to do
- I do have a fake business to fake operate, so we'll be picking up cargo and air-courier requests along the way. I'm looking at like a 5 figure fake fuel bill for the whole trip so I'd like to break even if possible!
OK we will begin boarding Monday 11/20 @ 1930 Central. Departing from Menominee, Michigan and I guess landing somewhere in southern Ontario or western NY. I’m thinking we’ll buzz niagra falls on the way. Lmk if there’s anything else people want to visit on the way…
we can island hop the south pacific to Chile, or up to hawaii (the Amelia Earhart route). Don’t think it would be possible to avoid far eastern russia if we cross the Bering Sea, which is perhaps not the wisest idea in what will be December by the time we’re out that way
Went with this destination largely because we were able to pick up a cargo job delivering 1,927 lbs of frozen prawns, which netted the airline about 15K
Winds calm at takeoff, western skies partly cloudy ahead of a storm front, but clear to the east, temp 40 degrees F. Flight was delayed because I had a hard time with discord and I made a typo on the nav coordinates which would have taken us to california
We’re using the Global Shipping mod, which shows irl shipping vessels in real time. No purpose to it other than boat nerds are into it. For example, we passed this guy here
Ah! I wanted to tune in but missed it. For some reason, even though I knew today was Tuesday for all other purposes, in my head it was Monday for the purposes of this specific event. Can‘t really figure that one out, but I’ll try to catch the next one.
Will do a short flight this early evening, up to Montreal. I'm eager to get out of the northern hemisphere before the weather takes a turn, and we have to hit up the Faroe Islands because the generalissimo of this website has requested it
### Next Flight Departing Brompton, destination probably Montreal, Quebec
### Boarding time 1730 Central 11/21/2023
will stream on discord as before but on the IC channel per NTJ's kind suggestion
@"wickedcestus"#p141592 no worries, it's going to take a while to fly around the whole dang globe so there will be plenty of opportunities to hang out
