It’s literally gonna be so good you guys it’s gonna make all the difference! Let’s fucking GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
@treefroggy how do you go about sorting your roms by release year? Do you do it manually or is there a script that can to automate the process? I’ve still only done this for my N64 games.
No, I’m just crazy and spend hours doing this for every console. No script for me. Someone in the world may have one. But for many of these obscure Japan exclusives there is inconsistent info. And I usually go by original Japan release date. The info on some of these is so obscure that there’s no database with all of them that I’m aware of.
For every console, I open the Wikipedia “list of all games for X Console”, organize by Japanese release date or whatever, and go through one by one for each library. Takes many hours but I quite enjoy it. Probably spend about 4-8 hours per console.
I like this way because it’s kind of like going through every rom in a rom pack. It familiarizes myself with the library. I consider myself an encyclopedia of Japanese games from the 90’s. And I like having individual control so I can make choices at my discretion, like if something is negligible imo.

That’s what I did for my ED64 over the course of a few nights. That library is thin enough that I could sort regional releases by their respective year, with PAL and iQue titles nested within their own subfolders—same for unreleased games.
I started doing the same for my GBA roms but that is 4x the roms, plus all those 3-in-1 packs and compressed Nickelodeon shows. The wiki page only seems to give one release year per unique title, mercifully. Whatever’s left after I comb the romset I’m just going to leave in a junk folder lol.
I agree that does familiarize oneself somewhat with a system’s library, even if all you take away from so many of them is a vaguely-remembered title. That might be enough to start making connections should I then hear about the game again in the wild, I figure.
yes this is me admitting I’ve spent probably 30 hours or more organizing ROMs for my flash carts.
Look, I don’t literally put every single game into the folders-- just the ones that are relevant to me. That’s also part of it-- filtering out garbage I don’t care about.
GBA was perhaps one of the more tedious libraries to go through. Ironically my GBA flash cart’s file structure feels like it has far less viable games in them than most of my others. either due to GBA’s shorter lifespan or the irony that the good shit represents like 3/10ths of the library.
NES also. going through famicom/nes complete list made me realize how much the famicom was filled with trash. SEGA consoles are always fun to go through though.
I can’t say for sure if, in your workplace, you would or would not be able to drink non-alcoholic beer while on the job. However, what I can say is that if there is any good in the world, any workplace which won’t allow anyone to consume non-alcoholic beer while at work, better also not allow anyone to drink kombucha at work
trying to remember the name of a game by a forum member. It was recently released and it’s about little guys mountain climbing and they look like nintendo wii avatars but better. I want to purchase this game but seem to have forgotten to wishlist it on steam. Does anyone know what I’m talking about?
Would any of the European posters here be willing to help me get ahold of something I can only find on a store that doesn’t ship outside the EU? I’m trying to avoid being gouged on reshipping fees.
