There’s a bulk store near me that carries a nice vegan “butter” they make in-store for not very much money in these mason jars. They call it a butter, but it’s spreadable right out of the fridge which makes it very margarine-coded imo. I never got the hate for margarine for that reason. Do I want to have to wait for the stuff to come up to room temperature before I can use it? No, actually, I don’t wanna wait (for our lives to be over ♬ ♩ ).

Just want to point out if you get one it will help warm up your hands.

I don’t have any experience wihh the original LCD model, but I got an OLED, thinking I could use it to play a few games I’ve been wanting to play a bit more conveniently, and now it’s my primary way to play everything.

If you have the disposable income, there’s little better you could spend it on, imo.

Is the Steam Deck heavy/big? I wanna get it for my wife and I to use, but she has tiny little hands. For reference, Switch Joycons are like the perfect size for her.

Not heavy but big. I’m fine using a Switch with Joycons attached but the deck feels bigger and more comfortable for me. It’s suprisingly sturdy for something that doesn’t feel as heavy as it should be, which is only a good thing.

My partner has a similar preference for smaller controllers, and found Steam Deck to be uncomfortable for too long play. If weight is critical, the OLED version is very slightly lighter.

What’s the deal with ebay? Do people bid anymore or is it all buy it now? If they do bid is there a reason?

The answer is complicated. ebay became all about buy it now a while ago, as far as sellers are concerned. they price it high, then either make deals or wait for someone to want it at the price they want.

SOMEtimes, you get people doing actual auctions, and they almost always go for less than a BIN (unless you get lucky, which is the main thing folks are looking for as customers there), but they’re very hard to win because of bots.

A while ago on the show I talked about how a big japanese seller was doing auctions for everything suddenly, at really odd hours, with bad descriptions. that was a good month where you could get something for like 30% of the usual price because people simply weren’t looking at those auctions. they have unfortunately switched back, sort of, to now having auctions that start at the price they want to sell for, but combine it with free shipping.

anyway I suspect people who sell for a bid are either oldschool, or have something where they’re not sure what the final value should be. Like my end of evangalion tape. that has sold for $500 and it’s sold for $800. I might put that up for bid with a reserve rather than chance it at $400 or whatever, if that makes sense, because the 5 sickos who need that tape are gonna be outbidding each other probably. Game prototypes and big ticket items where again, the value is determined by who wants it, are also (almost) always bid items.

this is my experience anyway!

Thanks for the info! We are helping my partner’s grandma sell a lot of her collectibles and trying to figure out the ebay ecosystem again. I haven’t messed around with it much for a long long time. I’m sure we will start to feel it out after a while, she has a ton of stuff.

I didn’t find any Evangelion tapes tho…

As a seller it’s probably wise to do research on past sales and do buy it now for something similar to what has been sold before. It’s a whole lot of work though which is why for lower value stuff I sell it either here or in a store. Sold my grandma’s cups and my mom’s vintage typewriter at antique stores around the area (sold on their behalf of course, and gave them the money). some things are a huge pain to ship and that’s worth thinking about.

Well, having heard everyone’s thoughts, and realizing I’ll probably mostly use it as a docked console under my TV, I’m thinking I should’ve gotten the cheapest lcd version and replaced the drive. Unfortunately it’s sold out so only the 2nd smallest is available. I will still consider this! But if anyone has an old steam deck I suppose I could buy it off you??

I’ve used ebay a handful of times over the past few years and always list as auction. But I’m pretty lazy (and old school) when it comes to selling things, and mainly want to get rid of them quickly, rather than getting as much money as I can. So I find it’s easier to do auction. I only had a problem with fake bidders on one of my listings for an old Switch. But that was easy enough to handle. And since then I’ve sold my Series X and PS5 via auction with good results and legit bidders.

Some research and listing as ‘buy it now’ will probably result in more money though. Especially if you’re not in a rush to get rid of stuff and can let the listings linger a bit.

My vote was for what I had the most exposure to, and it should not be construed as a vote of approval or disapproval.

I don’t know enough about Victor Lucas to know if he’s a bad dude or not? He seems ok.

After much deliberation I voted for 1up. It’s the more sensible and comprehensive show although AVGN is better for when you want to let your hair down. Also, the 1up Show is a real who’s who of people I remember

X-Play is the one I watched the most, but I’m not sure I could reasonably argue that I enjoyed a single episode of it. I voted AVGN because he made me laugh several times 37 years ago
