What are folks using for Gamecube/Wii controllers? Those GC clones on Amazon look like trash; Nintendon’t has a limited selection of UID mappings available (including using a PS4 controller) via usb on the Wii, but I was wondering if anyone has used/enjoyed any modern GC-compatibles/adapters!
i was recommended this today by my fgc peers. They also said that the mayflash one might work for me
Love this thread existing. I have a few raphnet adapters for some controllers, namely the classic NES and SNES controllers, also have an M30, three 8BitDo Ultimate 2C controllers, a brawler 64 controller and some other assorted 8BitDos that I don’t really use much but are good for travel (Lite 2 primarily). Of course I have a couple of first party controllers as well.
I would like to upgrade to a wireless solution at some point, likely with the 8Bitdo DIY kits + their adapters. Does anyone know of alternatives?
For smash melee I use an Xbox elite controller via Bluetooth. For everything else I just use a gamecube controller.
I use oem GCN and Wii controllers lol. I have four of the one and two of the other. When I’d just gotten my WaveBird I switched to using that until I started to miss rumble and went back to wired.
I tried a NYXI Warrior for GC; it was expensive and I’m actually sending it back today. All the buttons are microswitches, which sounds like a good idea in theory, but it just felt wrong in practice! Also, the dpad was super slippery and the c-stick was pretty far from A/B.
Will continue my search for a modern GC controller, and use PS4 on Nintendon’t for now.
Oh yeah, and I use a WUP-028 GCN USB adapter for my Wii U and Dolphin. I thought you could still get the Switch re-release from Nintendo but maybe not? Some 3rd party versions must be just as good.
Trying to find that good 3rd party option…
If there would have been one I would have thought that’d be it. Though, it doesn’t look like it has the notches the OEM has? That would throw me off.
I have an 8bitdo pro 2 that is starting to drift. Will ordering replacement sticks help anything or should it go in the trash?
might be wrong but i don’t think replacing the plastic stick is gonna help, it’s the module that’s causing the drift. i’d rec just getting one of their hall controllers, pretty sure the pro 2 has a hall version. i use the black myth wukong ultimate 2c personally and love it. finally, an 8bitdo controller whose home button isn’t blindingly bright, tactile dpad and the extra buttons are smushed between the bumpers and triggers, which i thought i wouldn’t like, but end up really liking that placement!
love me that emerald
I love everything about the 8bitdo M30, its my favorite “just dpad & buttons” controller in a long while. From Mister to UFO 50, I’ll break it out.
I’m in a holding pattern with modern controllers though. Been using a PS5 controller on PC, but I don’t like the form all that much. Had to replace the dpad membrane already, and a shoulder button has far less resistance than it used to because of a piece break in the shell. Battery life ain’t great, and if I plug it into charge it steals audio focus from my tv! Just enough little stuff that I wouldn’t just re-up the same device if needed.
Xbox Series is pretty good! The textures from stick to the back is pleasant. It’s pretty loud, especially that dpad. I also find myself using the dpad with the joint of my thumb, which leads to me pressing select and taking many many steam screenshots by accident.
My dream future device is a Steam Controller 2. Inputs mirroring what’s on the Steam Deck, touch pads, and back buttons. I am also a Steam Controller 1 apologist. I like messing with that stuff and tooling around for a new game. Nothing cooler than mapping 1-9 to a weapon select grid in an old FPS.
I am just so tired. I just want to use a modern controller on my PS2 but nothing is simple. The Retro Fighter Defender connects seemlessly but is fragile and has hair trigger triggers. The 8bitdo receiver needs a work around on certain games and beta firmware for some PS1 games. Now that it all works, I am back to doing illicit things to people’s throats in Shinobido.
Woah, that’s wild that some PS2 games are different enough in how they handle the port. I recently got the Brook Wingman for the same purpose, but haven’t yet put it through a gauntlet of games or anything.
I just ordered an M30! I want to use it for fighting games since I hate the PS5 dpad for them and don’t necessarily want to learn a fight stick or leverless controller. Excited and hope it works well.
you may not have to wait much longer, it is also my dream future controller.
god i hope they use hall sticks, though, and the dpad is better than what’s on the deck.
I would definitely use that controller. The two problems I have with the first is it only has one analog stick and the other is it’s mouse clicks didn’t work on some pop up menus.
oh wow, looks like a great start. I’m glad the dpad and buttons aren’t pushed fully to the edge like the deck. I’d probably shift my grip down when using the touchpad exclusively as mouse or joystick input.
I would be all over this
