Copier worshippers: a thread about fanzines and indie publishers

Yesterday I was going through my stack of magazines, pieces of paper and stickers I’ve accumulated over the years and decided to make a special space for my collection of fanzines. This led me to ask you guys, what are some of your favorite fanzines? do you know of some hidden gems or hyper-specific publications that you think need more eyes on them? Have you ever made a fanzine by yourself or with some friends?

Some of my favorites from my collection are the following:

Summary

Four years away from Fighting Games, by my friend Ori, a touching little comic about the hobbies you come back to and the perspectives you take after changing a lot yourself.

Las Nuevas Aventuras de Super Fideos, this one I actually borrowed from a friend. It’s a pretty wacky comic printed in this tiny format that makes it perfect for reading on the go.

Guide Book, by scoop_ie. I love the art style of this one. I haven’t read it in a while, but I remember it being a really cool take on trans/furry concepts. I can’t find the artist’s site now, but I’ll add it when I do.

Manifesto Horrorista, by Claudia Rodríguez. Claudia is kind of a big figure in the local trans scene. She’s a poet. I remember writing to her to ask if she had some zines for sale and she gave me this big bag of a copy of everything she had published. She just published a compilation of her work in Spain as a book called “Cuerpos para odiar”. I highly recommend it.

In the UK in the 1990s we had one called Electric Brain (it went by different names before and after) and it even made it into newsagents for a short time. High Street distribution for a video game fanzine about import gaming!

I borrowed a full set and scanned them: https://archive.org/details/electricbrain

There was a Wikipedia page for a while, it was good enough and I’d sourced some good references/cites, but some people who are not from the UK (so had unsurprisingly never heard of the publication) deleted the wiki page. Such is life!

Writer/editor was Onn Lee who is the brother of an actress who plays one of the Teletubbies!

These are so cool. I’ve been clipping my favorite bits from them. I love the little doodles they put in the earlier issues.

Thanks for sharing!
