It’s kind of a weird flex given the third game is by a pretty wide margin is the most substantial one, but hey, I’m really looking a gift horse in the mouth in saying that
Not only the most substantial, there are all sorts of caveats and questions about how to integrate those three games together. How do you integrate 1 and 2 after finishing 3? They’re probably hiding those games to preserve the twist of 3, but then if the games are chapters of the same game, are we to believe you’ll go from an hyper-evolved four-party group with tons of abilities to one lone character just walking around?
I’m calling it now, they’ll do a new twist, and have your characters travel through time and participate in the stories of 1 and 2. Similar to the last third of Dragon Quest 11.
I dunno, I think it’s also a good possibility they might just present them as a trilogy of three separate games on a menu rather than trying to do a singular, cohesive thing, unless they do some really fundamental retooling (I’d kinda prefer the former)
On the project scope, didn’t Yuji Horii hint that they’d be remaking I and II on a livestream years ago? If that’s the case, it might kinda make sense to develop the trilogy at once, since the first two (especially DQI) are much smaller in scope, and there’d be a good amount of shared assets among the three. Could also be preferable from a marketing standpoint, I could see offering two smaller games after releasing a much grander one being a hard sell. But, maybe I’m just trying to convince myself because I’m really in the mood to play these this year
I am kind of burnt out on 1-3 after playing them all many times. 2 is especially not really even worth replaying much. I wish they’d remake IV V VI, that trilogy deserves more attention.
The fact that Dragon Quest VI was released in the same year, just a few months after Chrono Trigger, is kind of astounding. Same year as SaGa Frontier 3 also.
Did they add a new class to this game?
I recognize all the classes from the GBC game except the one beside the Sage.
I’m excited to share that the official website for the remake features animated character gifs.
And one that is not animated for some reason.
I found some food
I found some folks on Reddit saying that it looks exactly like the Monster Master design from Dragon Quest X. Looks identical to me:
sigh if they add monster collection to this version then I’ll have to play it.
The GBC version had monster medal collection, which could have been a filler for a full monster collection system they wanted to include but couldn’t due to time/budget restraints.
that’s huge, thanks @Gaagaagiins
only a matter of time before it goes viral, I’m predicting people will go nuts for this, if true.
it’s probably true, looking at the sprites, the design is identical, minus the fact they’re human.
I did all the post game stuff in DQXI. Gotta admit, it’s got some of that “added in bonus content made by the C-Team as part of a port/remaster” stank on it, but, I can say I’ve smoked that game from end to end. It wasn’t too much extra effort to get the platinum trophy too while I’m at it, something I don’t usually do just in general, but considering I invested 150 hours into that save file by the end of it, and most of that was not within the last few weeks, I mean, why not?
Decided to rectify one of my loathed asterisks when talking about which mainline Dragon Quest games I’ve beaten:
For the record, I didn’t mean to call her “Erdick,” but, it wouldn’t let me call her that anyway, so she’s Erdrick, as the Almighty (me) intended.
So far the game has a nice vibe and there aren’t too many huge problems with emulating this game (knock on wood). So, hopefully soon, instead of having to say I’ve beaten all purely singleplayer mainline Dragon Quest games, I can say that I’ve played all mainline Dragon Quest games with official western releases.
Also I started watching Dungeon Meshi again and I’m still thoroughly convinced that Kui Ryoko would be such a perfect successor to Toriyama, for many reasons but absolutely because of how much focus she pays to the function and form of clothes. Even though Toriyama was less of a realist than she is, that focus seems very inspired by Toriyama to me:
Just gonna put this energy out into the world, raising my hands in the air for the “give Kui Ryoko the Dragon Quest character and monster design and overall visual language reins” genki dama. I think if Dragon Quest just kept doing a Zombie Toriyama style forever it would be really sad.
Kui would be amazing but for some reason this made me think of Tsutomu Nihei dragon quest and I can’t get the idea out of my head.
while we’re taking requests lemme get a MOTHER-like game with art by Taiyo Matsumoto
Got to the part in Dragon Quest V where
you blow up a mountain with a magic staff to enter a mine cart dungeon where a guy from heaven leads you to an underwater castle. What else is there to say really. DQ5 owns
BREAKING NEWS: I have published an update on my first post after finishing Dragon Quest IX.
