@“chazumaru”#p63069 Finished the game a few hours ago. This was possibly mentioned here earlier but there is a very nice option to not move forward to NG+ just yet, return to the Round Table to and check some locales and missions you had not done yet. You can even continue some NPC questlines. The option to transfer to NG+ remains available at the Round Table’s big bonfire.
Congratulations! And no, I don't think it has been mentioned here before! I was thinking of asking it myself, actually. I was feeling tension between wanting to speed up the rate at which I was going straight down the critical path, and being able to see more of the game without doing a lot of repetition. So this is very reassuring to me.
@“Syzygy”#p63039 Wait, is that new? I thought those icons were always there.
I'd be happier if they were more visually distinct or had an unobtrusive text component at least for the pickup notification, since these notifications can come up even not triggered by the player (say if you kill something with a guaranteed drop but there are still enemies around).
I truly have an unlimited capacity for complaining!
Please don‘t fall for the click bait and sensationalization of every little drip of Elden Ring news.
The PVP BROS. scene is making out these nerfs to be “HUGE CHANGES!!! this changes EVERYTHING!!!”
Mimic Tear is still the best spirit ashes in the game.
The biggest changes from 1.03 are what practically no one is talking about because they don’t know what it is exactly: the new MUSIC, questlines and GUI improvements.
These “nerfs” are extremely minor.
You guys at IC understand how development works. This patch was coming before the game even released most likely. It‘s not like they just slapped together these NPC quests after the fact, they were all eluded to. They just had to ship an earlier phase of the game, that’s how it goes. These NPCs were likely some of the later ones added to the game though.
The real concern for what may be nerfed in response to release window sensationalization is the instant death by proximity trick that news media are sensationalizing to "this mechanic is RUINING PVP" or even going as far as saying "this move is RUINING ELDEN RING"...... disgusting.
This is an example of something _awesome_ and _interesting_ that may be removed in order to balance PVP.
@“Syzygy”#p63085 It should be said however that there is a point of no return which renders part of the game unavailable.
Duly noted! If I start to feel I'm getting close to it, I'll use my best judgement and try to ascertain which parts of the game will be rendered unavailable, based on the context. I'm already nearing my limit for wanting to do anything that could be described as chores to begin with, so, I should probably be good.
Can't think of too much I'd not want to miss this time around besides the ||bell bearings for upgrade materials,|| which I'll probably look up the locations for soon.
Sounds like some exciting events are in store... although, I was already getting an inkling of that, having ran into ||Margit... again...??|| In other words, I finally made it to ||Leyndell.|| And, like @treefroggy , I'm in awe of the scale of it.
@“treefroggy”#p63082 I cannot imagine that the new quests, NPCs etc were not supposed to be in the launch game and From just didn’t get the extra month or two that they wanted.
@“Gaagaagiins”#p63079 I was feeling tension between wanting to speed up the rate at which I was going straight down the critical path, and being able to see more of the game without doing a lot of repetition.
Be careful though that there are two events on the critical paths that change things on the map and affect some regions significantly. And these don’t reset after you beat the game. Just in case, the two regions are ① >!the south of Limgrave just below the Mist Woods!< (but honestly you’re not missing much) which will change after you beat >!Radhan!<, and more importantly ② >!the huge capital Leyndell surrounding the worldtree!< will not be accessible "in its original form" anymore after you complete >!the Mountaintop of Giants!<, with the notable exception of >!the sewers!< sub-area which apparently does not change at all.
And obviously the many NPC that have their questlines specifically tied to your progress / what you accomplish on the critical path remain (probably?) unavailable. For instance, I could not have done Goldmask’s story or anything tied to Volcano Manor so late in the game, and I completely missed on Yura but ◉ I have just met Hyetta for the first time by accident and it started her questline ◉ I finally finished Thops’ questline after checking on the Wiki where was that damned last >!magic dagger key!< (I had missed a complete sub-area at the academy!) ◉ It seems I can resume and complete Sellen’s quest – I spoiled myself the proper route and I have no effing clue how a normal human being was supposed to logically figure out the proper sequence of events to activate her different scenario flags even if you have seen and understood the significance of the different locations tied to her story ◉ I had completely forgotten about poor Millicent halfway through her quest until the new update added the NPC icons, and it seems I can resume it.
(I am leaving the names in the open as I assume this means nothing if you have not met the characters.)
@“Syzygy”#p63125 not sure if I read that correctly but, I mean, I am pretty die-hard, I am aware of the subtractive design of ICO, and even how to make a mystery. But as a die hard, I also know they sometimes add stuff in with patches, like with dusk of oolacile. The reason I questioned these NPCs abrupt end, though, isn’t because it’s unheard of, but because I hadn’t finished the game and still had no idea what was in store, furthermore some of them like Haight imply their next move, not to mention their quest was pretty uneventful compared to any other souls NPC I’ve experienced. I’d use the sens fortress merchant as an example of an NPC you’d expect more out of in dks1.
And in general if you really don’t wanna miss or mess up a quest line there is no shame in checking the wiki when you’re already 60+ hours in the game IMHO. And the wiki has had enough time to bake and has better info this week. Just be careful not to read anything besides the next branch on your quest! Late game now for me… any idea why the boss respawned at red mane keep?!
You mean Jerry? He‘s not technically a boss but you do fight him later on. Love his armor, it’s kind of amano-esque isn‘t it? So you’re saying the Misbegotten boss and the Tree Knight both respawned because I beat them before I was expected to? That's cool I guess.
Getting to Redmane after doing Ranni's keep first and finding everyone dead and Radhan waiting was a really cool moment. Just like, the world moving on without me being there.
@“Syzygy”#p63129 I tediously checked back with her for every sorcery-related development since she took me as apprentice.
Well, yes, me too but I fail to see the logic of how / in which order you are supposed to interact with her and her former colleagues in order to "access everything".
I am spending the entire Saturday farming the second to last boss >!Godfrey!< as a phantom. Extremely quick invites so I think many people are trying to see the staff roll this weekend.
101 hours deep…. I probably need to slow down, maybe even take a break, and make sure I‘m enjoying it rather than just a checklist…. Probably read too much of the wiki to figure out all the NPCs I’d lost track of… but searching the overworld becomes a drag! I like when it feels most like Dark Souls and you're exploring castles and stuff…. I just bought 600 arrows but I definitely do a lot of slaying innocent cute animals for bones and feet and feel bad about it….
quests I had to look up after losing track of where they went:
- selen
- jerry
- beast boy
- the sassy first NPC
- ranni
- blaidd
- millicent
- still haven't found hyatt and i have so many grapes to feed her (open for advice but I checked all of her "locations"
- goldmask
They all had locations that I'd past by, I'm in the giants land after all... I can imagine I'd have enjoyed it much more having run into them naturally.... Especially the more tricky ones to catch like millicent... just coming upon her standing by the cliff on my way through... But the reason I missed her?? Didn't go to Gowry's shack after she left the church of rot... Some typical Bloodborne stuff....
So yeah if you haven't looked any of that stuff up, you may be doing better than me!

@“robinhoodie”#p63143 Getting to Redmane after doing Ranni’s keep first
dang! didn't know that was a thing! This game is crazy
I read too much wiki, so when I got to the door I knew you had to be naked......... BUT I DIDNT KNOW THE CONSEQUENCES OF TOUCHING THE DOOR...... But I'm going the path of reversing it either way.... It just felt real bad when.... you kow what happens after. I'm in the area afterwards. Major Dark Souls energy, except you can use your horse. I'm finding it more enjoyable to go without the horse though, and hone in on the dark souls feeling.
I am probably going to save scum if possible, since I'm unlocking all endings this playthrough, I do wanna see them all.
I'm also finding the frame hitching to be annoying only when it happens during battles. I started to notice it affecting my enjoyment of the game. Like maybe that's why I enjoy Dark Souls Remastered more on my PC: 4k60fps smooth...
The New music is awesome and encourages me to hang around these previous areas at night more.
Subsequent playthroughs may be more enjoyable.... But thinking about playing this huge ass game again... Next time I'll be going the critical path and only straying if I know it's something I need for my build... I'll surely forget half of the NPC encounters and run into them randomly again someday.... If I don't completely burn myself out right now... My personal psychology was the real tough boss all along.
@“Syzygy”#p63134 There are actually two instances of Redmane, depending on whether you have joined / completed “the festival”.
This is extremely confusing for me. The first time I went there it had all the enemies and the boss duo. I found that battle so annoying I decided to look up tips, and when I found out they wouldn't be there if I did some other stuff to trigger the festival, it was an easy choice for me. So I went on to beat bigboy starbaby and all was well. I'd been back to Redmane afterwards and it was all in a post-victory state. Then eventually I've found myself having to come back again in search of an NPC interaction I apparently missed - and it's all pre-festival again, with all the enemies and complete with the annoying duo battle. It's fine, I'll beat them if I must - it's not THAT hard! But it makes no sense to me story-wise. Can anyone explain it in way that makes sense?
Beat the game last night ||did the Ranni ending, which was satisfying||. The final boss is incredible. Just so cinematic and epic. I respecced after to a dex/int dual katana build with a couple of the unique katanas and the meteorite rod. Started NG+ and the build is deliciously broken.
I may just be getting bored of using plain old katanas for everything idk
But I can‘t respecc anymore apparently because there’s a questline that getse rid of renala….
I got to what I thought could have been a point of no return. >!the giant‘s forge or whatever, and melina asked if I was ready, so I said no.!< that was before I made her upset and leave me forever I hope she comes back and I can go ahead like normal once I do the questline I read about to reverse this curse I’ve inflicted upon myself.
@“treefroggy”#p63179 for Rennala if you mean ||the Glintstone teacher woman - just sit at a Grace and reload the area at the end of the quest and rennala will return. And a fun surprise too!||. Sounds like you’ve already figured out how to reverse the ensuing ending you mentioned. Melina ||unfortunately leaves you one way or the other, either how she did for you or once you select yes at the forge||
Halfway through the Ranni/Rogier stuff, and I‘ve tried so hard to keep track of where I’m going, that I‘ve lost a real sense of why I’m doing it. And there are plenty of guides around telling you the list of errands that a questline includes, but none (that I can find) that actually recap the story. Anyone seen something like this?
since there‘s very little jolly co-operation happening in this thread time for screenshot dump of my assassinations
my hands are still shaking, I was very exhilerated that multiplayer was working so well on my mobile tethered network…. I can never tell if my data dropped or if the due seriously just unplugged their router!
I got totally ganged by a dude who’s face makeup was a spot on joker mask.[upl-image-preview url=//i.imgur.com/P4GD7fJ.jpeg]
I suck and missed a better screenshot that showed his profile when it actually looked good instead of him 20 ft away
