A humble suggestion for best use of pink:

edit: But, in all seriousness, this was one of the first instances I remember in my life that challenged the "gendering" of the color pink. Why was the "girl car" covered in sick flames and piloted by a muscular dude with a sword? Because it looked awesome! Also, gameplay-wise, it probably provided a nice contrast with the rest of the main racers. Either way, I do think it made me a bit more open minded, if only subtly.

Ocean might be the Dunkin Donuts of video games

 For the Frog the Bell Tolls

https://contents-goods.netmall.hardoff.co.jp/201293/483fb063777b9093af7cfa86bbbfafc5.jpg

The level up progression is entirely linear. You level up upon completing actions that you have to do.
The designers know exactly what level the player will be in every section, so they design little puzzles around that.
It was comforting knowing I couldn't mess up; I could never be under-leveled, or under-equipped, or over-leveled.

It was one of the first RPGs I finished, and it helped me get into that genre.
I might never have played Earthbound and the Dragon Quest games had I not first played For the Frog the Bell Tolls.

Worst thing to happen to a console I owned:

I once was riding a fixed gear bicycle that belonged to my roommate while on a huge group ride while taking photos on a gameboy camera. I dropped it and it got run over by an SUV. The gameboy camera pcb was partially destroyed, SRAM + battery intact and I still have it and hope to one day recover the legendary and epic photos within.

Keurig coffee of video games: any of the new Fire Emblem games

-people think they're fancy and great, older fire emblem games (gba and before) had way better graphics and music. New fire emblem super fans mostly unaware.

-generates waste: tons of amiibos and stuff that ends up in the trash sold at target

@treefroggy#18332 Alternate suggestion:

The Guitar Hero/Rock Band rhythm game boom was the Keurig of video games. Their business model is selling you bite-size pseudo-DIY facsimiles of professionally produced products and generating a crap-ton of useless plastic in the process.

I like how according to Google Podcasts the topics for this week's episode are Game Boy Color and Brandon Sheffield (with a good haircut).

@treefroggy#18323 Isn't this the plot of Akira

@bodydouble#18312 yeah, I‘ve seen some of these real post apocalyptic seed vaults - wasn’t this one actually somehow negatively affected by climate change? In my case I was thinking of one that might “accidentally” survive and which wouldn‘t have been intentionally preserved, so it could be kind of discovered by people since most folks wouldn’t know it existed.

@kory good one for the disposable angle, I'm actually surprised we didn't come up with that one, oops!!! Oddly though, I've been seeing folks buying these things back up recently, there was some sort of re-boom where every time I was in a game store about a year ago there was someone buying, asking, or calling about rock band controllers.

ALSO: how do y'all feel about this chill beats version? Opinions on Patreon were split (which is why we have the non-music version available too), curious what folks think on here too. The consensus seemed to be folks who listen to it at faster speeds don't like it!

@exodus#18339 So, what you're saying is I should be hoarding used K-cups? Not a bad idea, just in case they become our Fallout-bottlecap-esque post-apocalyptic ersatz currency…

@exodus#18339 Re: chill beats: I love the beats themselves and would probably enjoy them on their own, but I personally am not a fan of podcasts set to a beat. The rhythm of the speech/banter and of the music always seem at odds with each other, as if I am trying to watch tv while someone is playing chill beats in the next room over. Again, I love Kurt's music and I will still listen even if you just kept playing the screech buzzer in the background, but my preference is without.

I listen to this podcast at 1x and loved the beats, but I often listen to slower talking stuff at 2x and music does drive me absolutely bonkers when I do.

I thought the chill jams were kinda neat but I can see why people who listen to podcasts at different speeds would be annoyed… Which I just realized listening to podcasts at different speeds is a thing.

The Casio Loopy is definitely lavender, though I think it– much like the Japanese Mega Drive reset button– is incredibly prone to discoloration/color fading, which makes it take on a grey appearance, while the button colors typically remain fine, for some reason.

_6. What game would you give a young Brandon Sheffield to change his destiny as an inveterate Nintendo hater?_

Also how about Little Samson or Cocoron? Little Samson feels more solid, Cocoron had some really neat ideas with customizing your character, which gave them different play styles.

Alternatively, Gimmick! Gimmick's difficulty still frustrates me to this day, but I do keep coming back to it for its charm, presentation (it is very Kirby-like), and amazing soundtrack. We'll never get that remake outside of the exA-Arcadia...

If all else fails, speaking as a Mega Drive enthusiast who takes an interest in PC Engine, I think Kirby would probably also be really good bet.

_8. It has now been 24 hours since the February 17th Nintendo Direct aired. What can you still remember about it?_

I cannot _wait_ for Famicom Detective Club. One thing to note is that only Part II was remade! Part II is also the only one with a fan translation patch, so this'll be the first time non-Japanese speakers will be able to properly experience Part I! That's pretty cool.

And now to wait for that official Metal Slader Glory remake that'll definitely, 100% happen.
(The illustrator is at least still super active online, occasionally will post about the game, but mostly draws lewd things in the mean time. Their style has also gone from pretty typical for the 90s, to _way_ more distorted and exaggerated. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

@exodus#18339 Re: the chill beats, I hate to be “that guy” but I actually created a forum account just now so I could protest it. For me, the underlying piano melody was annoying and distracting to the point where I turned off the episode after 10 minutes. I love the show-and I’m a proud backer-but please drop this idea and run the show without underlying music.

I would even back an extra $5 a month to get a "clean" episode download link without the music-that’s how much I dislike it!

Love everything else about the show - keep up the good work. Thank you!

Cocoron looks like a good candidate! It‘s got enough weird stuff in it. But ultimately we’re trying to get me to like Nintendo, not the NES, so I do think it'd have to be a nintendo-made game.
