I think the situation is pretty lame
I read the post in the discord, donāt really get whatās going on.
100k listeners is a lot! Crazy to think the pod and forums have been kicking for close to 4 years.
Something similar happened to the last video game focused pod I used to listen to lol. Iāve been struggling to keep up lately cause of work, so weāll see how long I hang on this time.
I donāt think horror games need to be scary but bloodborne and that fromsoft VR game freaked me out (i didnāt even play it).
I agree that books are scarier in the long term. Fear of the unknown and all that.
This is really stretching the meaning of the question but the most memorably āgrossā hands from a video game to me, because of their grossness not in physical appearance but in spirit, is from a certain scene in Planet Laika. I wonāt elaborate on this but it is the single time I truly felt violated in a video game. Others who have played probably know what Iām referring to
Do people really get scared when playing video games, to the point of turning the game off and walking away? I think the closest Iāve ever gotten was feeling anxiety while playing Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, but thatās about it. I remember listening to someone talking about how disturbing some of the enemies in Elden Ring were, but I didnāt feel it. I wanted to, but games donāt really do it for me. Books donāt do it either. I think the only thing that gets me are home invasion movies.
I wonder why that is. We took an assessment at work about how much trauma weād experienced as children and I had a really high score, so maybe thatās it?
I will usually self-limit my play sessions on games like Alien Isolation, where the structures surrounding the gameplay loop are designed to create an atmosphere of constant tension that is occasionally interrupted with bursts of extremely violent stress.
Itās also been mentioned extensively throughout this thread (which makes ME feel better about it), but the interrogation room Licker in Code Veronica did freak my friend and I out to the point where we were āJesus Christ, dudeā-ing each other for a good fifteen minutes before we were able to settle down and get back to playing the game.
Ok, I posted in the wrong thread yesterday, and Iām late. Itās best to forfeit any big long thing. I am emotionally affected, though. Whatever it is, I hope it gets better. I liked a few posts in the thread that reflect my feelings. My heart is broken. But Iāve met many great people here, who I can talk to about video games. Thatās all I wanted in the first place. I have huge respect for Frank and his work. Iām a Tim fan who doesnāt do twitch or discord. Iād like to discuss further, but probably best saved for hang sessions with IRL IC buddies, with facial expressions and body language. I chalk up his sardonic comments to fans as typical YouTube disease, and I feel sorry for anyone who catches it like that.
