I have tried to explain this scene to normie friends who have never played a video game and not only do I never do it justice but I always make it sound pervy
…maybe because I always be sure to include “yea and Kimahri is just there, offscreen, watching the whole thing”
My favourite might be the ending FMV from FFVIII. It’s expressionistic and an emotional rollercoaster, and from that era before voice acting was added to the series that didn’t make the games exactly like silent films but very similar. There’s colour, there’s sound effects, but everyone’s mute! Nothing quite like it!!
I haven’t played a FF game since VI on the GBA. I never got farther than out of Midgar on FFVII on PS1 back in the day. Yet here I am blazing my way through FF XV… Pocket
This is a long thread so maybe it has come up before, but this game, despite a VERY slow start has reminded me what I like about Final Fantasy games. Questing! Adventure! Fantastical worlds! I have been rivited to the game since the half way through plot turn. My plan to use it as my bed time relaxation game has turned it into my stay up way too late game.
I know they simplified graphics are part of it, but it is really funny to me how with the way games bloated out in the last couple decades. A traditionally paced Final Fantasy has gone from a big meal in the 90’s to a light snack in the 2020’s.
I now really wish there were a way to experience the XII games and XVI in this format. But I feel like it is such an artifact of a specific time and place. If only they had made some merch or a physical copy of the game I could buy.
