Final Fantasy Thread

I have tried to explain this scene to normie friends who have never played a video game and not only do I never do it justice but I always make it sound pervy :frowning:

…maybe because I always be sure to include “yea and Kimahri is just there, offscreen, watching the whole thing”

Enjoy the rest of FFX, what a lovely game <3

My favourite might be the ending FMV from FFVIII. It’s expressionistic and an emotional rollercoaster, and from that era before voice acting was added to the series that didn’t make the games exactly like silent films but very similar. There’s colour, there’s sound effects, but everyone’s mute! Nothing quite like it!!

that one absolutely rips- the ending of IX is the one that always gets me.

What are everyone’s favorite lesser known FF spinoff games?

I really enjoyed that Chocobo mini-games/card game on the NDS and I’m excited to tryout the sequel for it once my Japanese is better !

Chocobo Dungeon on Wonderswan
Final Fantasy 4 Heroes of Light or whatever it’s called on DS

Apparently this got announced and a demo released two weeks ago! First I’ve heard of it:

Could be the biggest release I have seen of late that was shadowdropped! Will see if it works on the steamdeck.

No, it’s unplayable. I was optimistic…

I haven’t played a FF game since VI on the GBA. I never got farther than out of Midgar on FFVII on PS1 back in the day. Yet here I am blazing my way through FF XV… Pocket

This is a long thread so maybe it has come up before, but this game, despite a VERY slow start has reminded me what I like about Final Fantasy games. Questing! Adventure! Fantastical worlds! I have been rivited to the game since the half way through plot turn. My plan to use it as my bed time relaxation game has turned it into my stay up way too late game.

I know they simplified graphics are part of it, but it is really funny to me how with the way games bloated out in the last couple decades. A traditionally paced Final Fantasy has gone from a big meal in the 90’s to a light snack in the 2020’s.

I now really wish there were a way to experience the XII games and XVI in this format. But I feel like it is such an artifact of a specific time and place. If only they had made some merch or a physical copy of the game I could buy.

There isnt much new information here but i thought it was cool to see all these creators interviewed in the same video. Some real goofy stuff (koichi ishii holding a swird for some reason) but some cool stuff too (some of the orginal art and concepts from ishii and amano) https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/shows/3025132/

FFIX is the best!

I wrote about some of that hullabaloo about FFXVI and FFVIIR2 being a financial disappointment.

I also restarted FFXV. I haven’t played it since before there were any DLC so I thought it would be fun to play it all, baby. This is the game that got me back into gaming, honestly. And I still find it a delight.

Noct is the best christ-like character ever put in a video game.

Yeahhhh. It’s why FFXV Pocket is probably going to be my GOTY this year. Once the turn happens the story just locked me in. Noct waking up on the island is an image that will stick with me forever.

Also thank you for the heads up on this series

Check out this absolutely bonkers text let’s play from twenty years ago for FFVIII. I’ve been replaying the game and wanted to bring up a snippet of dialogue I forgot to photograph and this thing came up in my search results. Multiple cw’s for 2000s gamer misogyny, homophobia and ableism. It’s from Videogame Recaps: “Where Videogames and Sarcasm Meet.”
