Thanks to this thread and the Mother-like thread, I now have a deep desire to play one of the River King games. Has anyone got any recommendations for which one to start with? Looks like there are GBC, DS and PS2 games in the series that were released in English. Is there one that is regarded as the best?
@āChopemonā#p52043
I think the Game Boy ones are the clearest statement on the series. The DS and PS2 ones suffer a lot of the same things that their Harvest Moon counterparts do. Between GB ones I dunno, they're kind of equivalent. There's the Sea King prototype that came out from the gigaleak, and then GB versions of River King 1 and 2 which have Super Game Boy support. The first one was remade in colour for GBC. eBay prices are goin' up which should be unsurprising.
Well, earlier I had three beers and ordered a PS2 copy. I watched some gameplay of it and I loved the visuals. Ironically I also found a cheap copy of Harvest Moon on GC which I grabbed as well.
The GB games seem to be really expensive now so I'll grab them for my emulation setup.
New update to Guilty Gear -STRIVE- features customizable rooms for player matches. And thus, you have all new decorations to fish for!

@āChopemonā#p51989 Fish Eyes
did you get Reel Fishing III for the PS2? I think that's the one to get. Hanging out in a cabin and befriending a dog in between fishing. I think III/the dreamcast game are the Fish Eyes that went rendered 3D rather than the photo backgrounds (which look a little weird to me)

@āKarasuā#p51990 I just wish there could be room in the market for a game where you just donāt do much. Does that make any sense?
absolutely makes sense. I've been trying to articulate what I want/like about this feeling and I get it in part from a weird variety of games. It has something to do with being on the periphery of the "game" happening rather than just open-ended or low stakes gameplay: One of the nice things about fishing minigames is how they allow you to disengage from the jrpg or whatever, but still hang out in that atmosphere+sense of place. Or how shenmue, at least to me, feels like you broke lose from a virtua fighter match and are living life in the stage background. I also like the football manager games just because they build this hugely detailed world, and you can just sort of work at some shitty semi-pro team in Ohio and argue with a local reporter. I don't even really like soccer or know the rules, I just like that type of game. Maybe similar to how most fishing minigame-likers don't like fishing irl
@āairplane languageā#p52094 just had a look and it turns out I bought Lake Masters EX on the PS2. It was silly cheap in second hand shop. HOWEVER, thanks to your reply, I've just bought Reel Fishing 3.
Edit: the PS1 game I bought was Fish Eyes 2. That one is definitely more of a "I want to look at the PS1 art" purchase than something I'm going to spend a chunk of time with.
Konami's Fishermanās Bait 2: Big Olā Bass has a USA stage which apparently takes place after some mass casualty disaster. And you get to catch ultra nationalist fish

@āAfter that rat, another and another.ā#p52353 Random trivia: I didnāt know (yet should have assumed) this game came out in North America but it is a home conversion of Bass Angler, which was an arcade game series using a special fishing reel panel akin to Segaās arcade games. The arcade versions ran on Konamiās hybrid CD & Cart arcade system, the System 573, which was pretty much a souped-up PlayStation in disguise.

@ātreefroggyā#p68366 Why is B4SS in all caps? Is that an acronym or something? Is this the official game of the ļ¼¢ass ļ¼”nglers ļ¼³outhern ļ¼³howdown tournament?
ā¢ā¢ā¢Wait, [I found out by myself.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_Anglers_Sportsman_Society) Okay.
By the way, not directly games-related but I urge everyone to read this fascinating essay from 2014 on [the cheaters of competitive bass fishing](https://grantland.com/features/bass-fishing-cheaters/) before ESPN/Disney inevitably pulls the plug on the now defunct Grantland website. Could be made into a Coen brothersā film. Pretty much my only contact with the real life sport but I still think about this story from times to times.

This is the manual for REEL FISHING 1 on Playstation. Mark Davis would later go on to have his own game, Mark Davis Pro Bass Challenge (PS2, GCN)

If you want to be happy for a week, get married.
If you want to be happy for a life, take up fishing.
