Games you're thinking about playing

Every time I see this thread I think “Oh hell yeah a thread for what I’m doing more than playing, just contemplating past play / imagining the act of playing” and then I remember “oh wait it’s the thread that I think should be called ‘games you’re considering playing.’ Maybe I should make the thread I want but that title sure is parked…”

I’ll just hafta come up with a better title for my thread.

is “cozy eldritch” a thing now? Because 2 weeks ago I talked to someone in a different context who described a monster as a cute eldritch abomination. And when I brought up cosmic horror and body horror they were like no no, eldritch in a cozy way - which I don’t get!

I’ve had it up to here with eldritch

I think there’s a demarcation between the chibification of chthonic horrors and the comfortable fatalism assumed in tossing on a heavy wool sweater, a watch cap and some foul weather gear to plumb the ocean depths for your livelihood, horrors - real or otherwise - be damned.

So I did end up downloading it and playing for a couple hours, it seems really cool actually! I’m honestly not a big Bioware fan outside of the first KOTOR so if anything they make would do something for me, it would be this lol. I made an Imperial Agent.

Yeah it’s a weird one right! It doesn’t do anything crazy mechanics wise but from memory it had pretty decent production values at the time. There is a decent amount of voice acting in the game + it does let you roleplay is a good or bad dude on either the Sith or Jedi side.

I’d be keen to check it out again if it were available on Mac.

For some reason I associate letting my dogs out in my backyard with Steambot Chronicles.
I’m moving out of this house next month.
Maybe I should neglect Infinite Wealth more and play the villain route in Steambot Chronicles???
And then probably end up neglecting Infinite Wealth again in favor of Ys X???

I’m looking at this Visions of Mana footage. I’m liking what I can see and I think I’m ready for something like it.

Feeling the Igavania itch - anyone played Ender Lilies or Afterimage? My issue with both is they kind of seem a little weird in motion? I could also be swayed on bloodstained but same issue even worse.

Maybe I’ll just play Aria of Sorrow.

I often think about playing either Space Engineers or Teardown. The act of downloading people’s extremely elaborate Steam Workshop creations specifically to blow them up satisfies the same part of my brain that likes the sound of crunchy foods.

I’ve had Tears of the Kingdom on my mind since I beat the absolute brakes off of Breath of the Wild… but I haven’t gotten to it yet because I’ve also been thinking about playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity… I don’t care if it’s not canon or whatever, I wanna beat people up as Zelda!

Bloodstained is very good for about 10 hours imo.
My biggest problem with it (basically my problem with a lot of metroidvanias) is they just start throwing enemies at you; mostly flying enemies.
I feel like difficulty is not something that should even be taken into consideration for a metroidvania; i think that’s very much not the point.
But idk, I’m stupid who cares.
Bloodstained also eventually introduces slow as a status effect, which i think is very annoying; especially in an action game.
But the moments leading up to that were a highlight in my gaming career!

I haven’t played Age of Calamity, but that first Hyrule Warriors rips.
It’s so cool.
Wii U’s so cool.

First hour of gameplay for Infinity Nikki has been out for a month now.

It looks fun. I’m legitimately hyped! I hope they don’t go for an atrocious microtransaction riddled gacha business model and instead make it a full price game where the gacha mechanic is based on the in-game currency only. A man can hope…

My FF14 FC has been trying to get me back into the game for a while now. This gameplay footage is triggering my fashion neurons. I might come back to FF14 for that reason alone, haha. If only there were more good games where styling your character in cute ways is the main focus!

Bit late but chiming inzo thr Void Stranger discussion:

I played like 3 hours of it and then the puzzles got too hard and frustrating for me and also I didn’t really enjoy the writing either.

Anyway I’m thinking of bringing my 3DS on my trip to the UK over the next weeks, what’s some games I should play on it? :)

There are a lot of games I’ve been thinking about playing. I’ve yet to impose upon myself a proper “backlog” because that would only make matters more daunting, but here are just a few of the games I often think about playing.

them Yakuzas - started playing 7 a couple years ago, but I fell off after realizing I’d prefer the proper context of all previous entries

Twilight Princess - had the Wii version used from gamestop but never got very far. I’ve had the gamecube version on my computer for a few years now

Dragon Quests 3 and 11

them Shenmues - I really respect what I’ve heard about them and I’ve been kind of waiting to get in the right headspace for games like that

them Personas - I got a PS4 for P5 and stopped after the first palace, got P5R day-one and the same thing happened.

them Metal Gears - I’m one of those people that got hooked by the open world allure of MGSV and played for hours and hours with a steam controller back in the day but never played the rest of the series. again, a series I really respect but I’ve just been waiting for the right time I guess.

I want to count Xenogears but technically I have been playing through it, just veeeeeeeery slowly. Like an hour every week and a half.

also despite only playing SotN and Aria of Sorrow for the first time this year, for months I’ve been considering going back for seconds on both of them.

FWIW you can finish the MGS mainline games in the time it takes to play one Persona, so I’d suggest to start with that

good to know! that makes those games significantly less intimidating

Thinking about playing loads of One Piece games. I’m doing a big catch up after pausing on the manga at the end of the Wano arc because I like to binge The Greatest Work Of Literature Humanity Has Ever Produced, and now I just want all One Piece, all the time.

I have Unlimited World Red unplayed but maybe I’ll also like the 5/10 World Seeker? I love 5/10 games! Sometimes! Odyssey looks cool but it’s a big 'ol RPG.

Anyway, I have too many games to play so I probably won’t buy them but I am thinking about it for sure.
