yeso please I have been looking at youtube videos breaking down the different server options for a while now. it might be time.
what do you think is the server to go with? Legends looks promising but don’t know much about the others
So there are 3 versions of the game:
Pre-CU: original version that most of the hardcore fans seem to like the most
CU: Combat Upgrade, changed some of the fighting but kept a lot of the previous design
NGE: post-WoW version of the game that made bigger changes to how everything worked
The server situation is largely indecipherable because they use these different versions as bases but then do a bunch of their own stuff on top of it. Seems like for Pre-CU there’s a server called Infinity that people like, CU there’s Restoration, and NGE is Legends. I would probably go Legends because it’s the most active by far seems like.
I set a goal for myself this year to play through Final Fantasy VI. It’s already September(!) so I’m aiming to play that soonish.
have you played the Raven Jedi Knight games? they’re rad
yes absolutely, in high school a friend had Jedi Outcast and burned a bunch of copies for us. We played a ton of multiplayer, great times.
I’m thinking about playing the back half of Playdate’s season 1 catalog. They say I’ve gotta charge the thing regularly or else the battery’ll die out and from the sounds of it, sending it in for repairs would be real expensive, so it seems like a good time to dip back in.
yeah those Raven games, KOTOR, scattered comic books, wish there was more of that. I dipped into Galaxies but it’s not really grabbing me. I think I need to learn the recent-ish TTRP that’s supposed to be cool
Are you talking about the fantasy flight games RPG? I’ve played a Star Wars TTRPG and it sucked but I didn’t realize another one has come out since then
I would check out Scum and Villainy. It’s not an officially licensed Star Wars product but it was crafted by devoted fans and designed to be extremely easy to swap out the word choice (Jedi, slicer, etc.) It’s based on the Blades in the Dark framework and is excellent fun.
The ship mechanic is great, the players decide on what kind of ship they want to start out with and then it has its own character sheet at the table with upgrades and stuff but never gets too complicated.
yeah is that the bad one? I know there’s the older one from like 1987. I don’t know much about this stuff tbh
I thought it was discontinued so I guess I decided not to look into it, but reading a bit this morning it sounds better than the one I played at least. I play TTRPGs a lot but it’s hard to keep up with all the different IP getting them now. I played the wizards of the coast game and it was really bad
gotcha yeah from what I can tell this most recent game has been well-received other than people being a little annoyed at how the material was packaged
Wondering if anyone has tried that Lollipop Chainsaw remake? I’ve always wanted to try the original and I’m not sure how it performs vs the original.
I hate that cool games keep being made.
I’m about done with Astro Bot and I’ve recently bought UFO 50, and Natsu-mon.
But I think that I should probably get on some of that Final Fantasy: Stranger of Paradise?
Also really been thinking about finishing up Shin Boku, or Boku No Natsuyasumi 2.
it’s so good
I had a blast the past couple of days watching John Learned’s Annotated Symphony of the Night playthrough before bed. I learned of its existence because it was mentioned in the fighting game thread and watching it sure made me fired up about trying out one them castlevanias.
After having just watched a playthrough of SotN I’m considering starting somewhere else with experiencing those games. I know there’s the recently released dominus collection which seems like it might be a good starting point. But there’s also Bloodstained, of which I know that it has also been designed by Koji Igarashi.
I’m interested in the opinions of IC forum’s resident castlevania experts and enthusiasts. Are there any other entrypoints you would recommend? Or which of these two above would you prefer? How do the switch versions of the games hold up compared to the PC ones?
Aria of Sorrow is probably the best starting point outside of SotN.
That said, I’d recommend Order of Ecclesia because it rules.
Setting up my Mister Pi tonight and very excited to play some cool games. So many possibilities of games to play it’s almost overwhelming. Looking to use it for some UFO 50, explore 8/16 bit blindspots, while waiting for the former to come to Switch. Grew up with an N64 so PS1 is a big blind spot and the From dungeon crawlers are calling my name (as well as Gran Turismo; 7 is fantastic on a wheel but the “game” aspect is severly lacking). Also so excited to play one of my all time favorite rental games for the first time since childhood, Beetle Adventure Racing!
Also feeling the call of my yearly Yakuza game playthrough, up to Kiwami 2. Started it the other week waiting for a concert livestream to start and barely got through the recap bits so still not technically “started”. Feeling like Kiwami 2 will be a good bounce around with the Mister throwback fun.
I second Death_Strandicoot’s recommendation of Order of Ecclesia, which rules indeed. It’s structured a bit differently from Aria and Symphony but definitely stick with it. It’s got everything I like in one of these in terms of powers, weapons, combat, boss battles, secrets, character art, music. @MoH get in here and back us up.
I would go for Switch for portability/bedtime game feel, but it doesn’t seem like you can go wrong with Switch or PC.
I don’t recommend starting with Bloodstained—I don’t like it personally, but it’s also so full of callbacks to the other Igavanias that playing it first might leave you alienated.
