Dominus collection is a good starting point. I’m just about to wrap up Dawn of Sorrow via the Switch version. I still think Symphony is the best place to start and the best Castlevania game though.
order of ecclesia has everything you could want in a “castlevania” game along with a few extras. the music alone is worth the price of admission. strongly recommended!
I think Ecclesia is one of the best Castlevania games, period! It feels to me like the designers took everything good from all of the post-SoTN games and produced something that feels almost perfect to play. I would have loved to get another Iga game after this that iterated on all the interesting ideas it’s got, but instead we those 3 lousy PS3 and 3DS games that looked terrible and felt clunky (And Iga made Bloodstained, a game that’s ok but felt phoned in and didn’t iterate on anything at all). Literally the only thing I can think of in Ecclesia that I don’t love is how tiny and incomplete so many of the regions feel, but that’s pretty dang minor!
Thanks for all your opinions! The Dominus Collection is being downloaded onto my Switch as I’m writing this. I’ll check out Order of Ecclesia first then! I’ll probably also go back to Symphony of the Night eventually. I just don’t want to play it after just having watched a playthrough. It might be good candidate to play on my retroid.
now that i’m an official deck head, i am looking forward to playing all the games that were previously inaccessible to me in the walled garden of consoles.
ufo 50 is one, along with fear and hunger, nine sols, immortality, pseudoregalia, and who knows what else.
good lord UFO 50 is the perfect deck game – it should ship with the dang thing. I’m looking forward to playing Nine Sols on mine as well.
has anyone here played Kunitsu-Gami on their steam deck yet? I’m still eyeing it, even at full price, but I only play handheld at the moment.
oh that was the other game that pushed me to buy the deck! i played the demo and was loving it on playstation but thought it’d be perfect for handheld. a quick google search said it runs like a dream but can’t confirm myself just yet.
I can’t recommend Nine Sols enough. It’s a fantastic game, and plays great on deck.
I think I’m going to have to get into UFO 50 based on all the positive buzz on this forum
In a similar but not equivalent fashion, I just got myself a DS Lite and a flash cart so send me your recommendations, the more obscure and Insert Credit-y the better! I had one growing up of course but I haven’t had one in probably 10 years now, and since I had kid money for most of that time I missed out on a lot. I’ve played all the Marty’s and Zeldy’s and things of that nature but am otherwise feeling overwhelmed by the insane breadth and depth of this catalog
rhythm heaven!
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!
Ooh yeah I meant to grab that. I was playing Elite Beat Agents earlier and it was cool but the English music just doesn’t feel right. Might need to look for a way around that
yes to Fear & Hunger both 1 and 2. you’ll want to add Pathologic 2 to your steam wishlist and select the option to receive a notification when it’s on sale for $8 as it often is. Someone here had a good time with it on the deck
Any of the Rune Factorys; I’m very partial to the first one myself.
The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is a really cool one as well.
I was all set to start UFO 50 today, but then I saw there’s a playable demo for Metaphor: ReFantazio releasing this morning. I’ll ride the UFO at a later date.
I had a dream last night that Dome-King Cabbage got a release date.

There’s a few DS recommendation threads here with some excellent choices.
For some reason, Grimstone in UFO 50 is making me think a lot about Bravely Default. I don’t even particularly like the Bravely Default games, I think they’re padded and repetitive, but maybe that’s what I enjoy about Grimstone too. If anything I’m more interested in actually playing Octopath 2 or Chained Echoes which are more thematically or mechanically similar and are interesting games… but for some reason Bravely Default is calling out to me.
I feel like I almost play bravely default three times a year
