I've been thinking about playing Ape Out since I learned it has dynamic jazz.
Every time I see a new piece of marketing for FF7R2 I think about playing it.
@"connrrr"#p146331 Wait until you play it! It’s an incredibly dynamic game in general!
I‘ve been thinking a lot about that Persona 3 Remake that’s coming out in a couple of days. Almost taking me back to when I was excited for the original in Australia in 2008.
It's getting good reviews too. The real challenge now is playing a narrative heavy, probably 60+ hour JRPG now that I'm engaged and living with my partner. Don't know how parents do it.
@“MovingCastles”#p150805 It‘s simple. We don’t
Just take the length of a game, factor in how much time you have per day to play it and then totally disregard that time based on **_if_** you actually have time to play it.
60 hour game = 17520 hours to play it!
@“Tom of the Fog”#p150810 can't wait to be a parent lol.
Sitting down and playing a game will be like exploring that one planet in Interstellar.
@“MovingCastles”#p150805 Persona 3 took me 100 hours to finish, and that was the original 2007 release. It‘s got to be the longest single player game I’ve ever played still.
I'm thinking of playing the feMC route in P3P while everyone's digging into *Reload* but I know it would be a bad idea to chase *Tales of Berseria* down with an even longer JRPG—so I probably won't do that!! But I'll THINK about playing it.
I'm always thinking about playing Mirror's Edge: Catalyst.
I‘m also considering playing either Reload or P3P or even Nocturne to be a contrarian. But ain’t nobody got time in their life to finish the game before FF7R2 comes out, and I feel like there‘s a high likelyhood I’d just abandon the game after 15 hours if I tried, so I might as well wait until the price drops lower than $70.

@“connrrr”#p150988 I’m always thinking about playing Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst.
you should 'jump in'! (pun intended) it's actually a very pick and up and play kinda game, I beat it over the course of a few months doing a few missions at a time here and there.
@“connrrr”#p150988 i thought about it so much i eventually played it. not as good as the first, a bit repetitive, but it's alright
Thinking hard about Shenmue and Yakuza 3 as I continue to play Kiwami 2. . . . . .
>
@“skelly”#p151022 not as good as the first, a bit repetitive, but it’s alright
I haven't played it yet because I figured this must be the case. Like the first game (which I love) it didn't make much of a splash on release, and I always wondered if it just came out at the wrong time or if it really was a little bland. Someday I will **vault** over this **waist-high** mental barrier and decide for myself if _Mirror's Edge Catalyst_ **sticks the landing**
@“MovingCastles”#p150977 Don't think of it as having to give up gaming as a hobby. You can forgot about all the things you enjoy doing!
I mostly joke, my eldest is discovering video games and we've played Sonic 2, Yoshi's Island and various other games "together". It's just harder to find time to get into big games where you can set aside long periods of time to play them. There's a lot of big games released over the past few years I've not even considered playing as I won't be able to enjoy them properly and that's fine. It makes you a bit more choosy on what you play.
I will say my Switch and Steam Deck have helped me a lot with gaming - mostly that when I have a small window I can pick one up and know I can stop at a moments notice. And eventually both my sons will be older and probably want to play games too, which is awesome.
That's when I'll catch up on some sleep ;)
@“connrrr”#p150987 you know I was pretty lukewarm on P3P given that it leans more on the visual side of things. But now having an abridged version of the game doesn't sound too bad. Some day I should try the FEMC route for that sweet Shinji action.
@“Tradegood”#p151006 go for it! play the REAL Shin Megoomi Tensay game! ~(…like Nocturne or Strange Journey)
I find it funny that P3R and FFVIIR2 are releasing at basically the same time given that P5R and FFVIIR released at the same time and I ran into the exact same issue of not being able to finish one before the other but being so hyped for the other. This time around I'm hyped but less eager to play them both at release. I still feel like I have some unfinished business to attend to: I'm in the final dungeon of P4G >!not the final final one, but about to take down Adachi/Izanami. Still a ways left to go until the Golden Ending!<; I haven't yet played the INTERmission DLC for FFVIIR so I might go ahead and do that soon so that I can clear 90GB of storage off my PS5.
Remember that one shrek post from the internet? About the guy who'd just recall all of shrek sometimes when he was a kid? I do that with dark souls 3. I just run through it in my head.
One of my goals for this year (as well as a goal for last year, which I can‘t say I accomplished) is to play some games that are outside my comfort zone. The issue with that is that it’s a) hard to know exactly what I‘m looking for and b) hard to motivate myself to play something I don’t know. A couple of areas I want to explore:
Shooters: I didn't grow up playing shooters because I was not allowed to play games that had guns in them. So when it comes to shooters I am completely awful, which is annoying because it seems as though everyone on the planet is good at them except for me. I remember playing some _Halo_ with my sister's high school boyfriend wayyy back in the day, and I actually quite liked it. However I don't own an xbox or gaming PC so that's not really an avenue I can explore.
My recent experience with the genre is limited to the _Metroid Prime Trilogy_ (with wii mote controls, so that skillset doesn't translate to anything else) and _Bioshock_ (meh. struggled quite a bit but got it done on easy). I was maybe gonna give _The Last of Us_ a shot since it has a million different difficulty options so there's bound to be one that is appropriate. But I don't know what else to explore or what games would actually help me gitgud at these games so I can keep exploring them
Souls: The crushing weight of FOMO has gotten to me, as well as the embarrassment of not being a *true* gamer. I have not played a Souls game. Well, I played like 2 hours of _Dark Souls_ four years ago but felt a bit overwhelmed. FWIW, I felt similarly when I tried _Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne_ for the first time, but after beating _SMT V_ and coming back to it, I didn't find the game intimidating or overwhelming at all. So I'm kinda looking for something like that - a good place to get a foothold that will make all of the other games way less scary. I was thinking about trying out _Bloodborne_ because I was under the impression that one was easier than the rest, but looking into it it seems like that may be the exact opposite case. _Demon's Souls_ was another one I was considering, since, y'know, it feels like a safe bet to start with the first one in the series. I can't guarantee that I won't run into the same issues I had with _Dark Souls_ though - no idea what to level, not sure how to build my character, not sure what to do with my equipment... I probably wouldn't be overthinking things so much if these games weren't built up as the most difficult things ever. And like, I like a good hard game! These should be in my wheelhouse! I just don't really know how to get into them
Rogue: I really enjoyed my _Hades_ experience a few years back. I already went in the other direction and played _Transistor_ and have _Bastion_ queued up to play soon. Yet, I haven't explored other games in the rogue genre at all and I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm not certain what I want out of a Rogue game, but the closer to _Hades_ the better, I'd say?
@“Bbtone”#p151031 @“Tradegood”#p151006 sounds like a shoe-in!! I‘m not racing to start it, but……… I’ll give it a trial run.
@“Tom of the Fog”#p151044 I'll try to keep gaming around as much as possible when I become a parent at some point.
That's the fascinating thing - whether your kid will get into the same hobby or not. I don't plan on pushing future baby into gaming, but if they're interested it would be super cool.
It's really a mental thing - like I can probably get immersed in a big game. But I kind of want to be available to talk or quickly do chores. I can see myself playing on the switch even more and more in the future lol.

@“MovingCastles”#p151084 I don’t plan on pushing future baby into gaming, but if they’re interested it would be super cool.
I'm in the same position, I don't want my children to do the things I enjoy because I do them, I want them to discover as much as they can for themselves. The stuff I have around the house means they can't avoid it, but when I grew up and gaming was still relatively new it meant it was easier to discover it on my own. I think the best approach, and the one we're doing at home is giving them options - show them something and see if it clicks, but don't force it as that's the best way to turn them off it.
I'm still playing big games when possible, but it takes a lot longer than it did before. It's not just the time aspect, but also the energy too! When everything is done at home and I get some time to myself, I now think more about what I want to spend that time doing - and sometimes the idea of playing to watch a cut scene, or grind for levels just doesn't seem as appealing as it did before.
Right now I'm loving Policenauts - but there's a certain scene which I just am struggling with and have spent an hour on it and am getting nowhere. And I have to pick the little "angels" up in a while so I am wondering if I should carry on or just give up and do something else!
It's just time management =)
I‘m definitely on the marketing hype train for FF7R2. I’m intending to pick it up day one and if I work hard and manage my other commitments I will be finishing it by the end of the year!

Go try _Dead Cells_. It is one of my favorite games and I like the combat much better than _Hades_.

@“Hunter”#p151074 Shooters
The Last of Us would be a fine place to jump in, though it depends what you mean by getting good, or what you mean by being bad at them. imo Bioshock is a clunker that feels bad to play so don't beat yourself up over not playing it on a harder difficulty (don't beat yourself up for that ever, but you know what I mean). Do you have difficulty lining up shots quickly? Do you feel pressure from moving and aiming at the same time? An easy recommendation is Resident Evil 4, which lets you get used to lining up shots without needing to worry about moving (Metroid Prime's skills do transfer if you play the Wii version, hehe). Resident Evil games which do allow you to move while shooting are OK too, given that movement is slow and it's still more about aiming precisely at a (typically) slow-moving enemy. Obviously if you're not into horror games these won't be as good a place to start. What shooters appeal to you on an aesthetic level? And in terms of design, are you more interested in shooters developed post-Halo, post-Call of Duty 4? Doom clones? Quakers?
In my experience first-person shooters didn't quite make sense until I could play them with a mouse, Halo being the exception (I play with a controller even on PC). When you say you don't have a gaming PC, do you mean you don't have a computer, or just not one that can run really high-demand games? If you've got a Mac or lower-spec PC, I would recommend Half-Life and its sequel (they stand on their own), Dusk, Quake, or Doom (the latter two of which can be a little tricky to get running on a Mac, but it's not too bad), which should all run well. What consoles would you play a shooter on? Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus are great, but the shooting can be a little temperamental (Wolf II can be pretty tough), and of course you need a PS4-or-newer or an Xbox One-or-newer to play them* (*Wolf II is on Switch for some reason).

Souls
I cannot recommend Demon's Souls enough, great place to start. To me much of the fun from those games evaporates when you catch wind of people online talking about "the best" way to play the game/the best build to use, so I don't want to come across that way, but if I may make an exception for myself in response to your worry about what to level etc: I recommend giving ||a temple knight or a knight|| a try. Level ||vitality||, ||endurance||, and either ||strength|| or ||dexterity|| depending on which stat goes best with a weapon you like (which is indicated by the weapon's display in the menu).
Bloodborne is certainly not easier than the others!

What I'm really thinking about is how in the world I'm going to play FFVIIR2 without paying $570 + tax for it (I have my budget as well as my [vow of chastity](https://forums.insertcredit.com/d/3049-ep-319-insert-credit-annual-5/42) to consider). I do not know anyone with a PS5 nor have a local library where I can borrow one. Hmm...
