Good raps

oh mans, you wanna talk about good raps, yallz see that Ghostface vs Raekwon Verzuz thing yesterday??

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNs6XsJAjfg

2.5 hrs of classic music as they get progressively drunk throughout the whole thing lol. By the end they're just dancing.

spoiler: 2.5 hours and Apollo Kids, the subjectively best Ghostface song, never makes an appearance :(

also spoiler, most of the Wu Tang members make an appearance. Method Man does not show up, though you can see him in the comments, and GZA and U-God are nowhere to be seen. The rest of the members are there, including ODB's son.

I was gonna post the Showtime documentary about Wu Tang too, but it looks like they took it down?? The episodes were available for free on youtube so I was glad I finally got to watch them! But now it looks like theyre behind a paywall again.

I told myself for like a whole year I should sign up for a Showtime trial just to watch the documentary lol, I guess a few weeks ago I got lucky becoz the documentary is quite fantastic. Wu Tang is one of the greatest things about hiphop period, and any celebration of them is worth the attention

Da Brat! if you wanna talk about good raps, let me tell you about the goodest rap. The best rap, as you may say.

without a doubt, my all time favorite rap song EVER, is a Da Brat song.

that's the dirty version too, something I had NO IDEA existed until like 10 years after the fact. Like it's 2005 and it felt like I had heard my favorite song of all time for the first time all over again! it was CRAZY!!

I found a vinyl copy of this song too while I was in Japan one time lol. It doesnt have an A side and a B side, instead it just has two B sides lol.

speaking of Missy, she's still part of one of the dopest posse cuts I've ever heard

RIP Aaliyah... imagine if this team had made more songs together.

@p3ters#23677 this beat is video gamesā€¦.

any Your Old Droog fans?? his new album with Tha God Fahim is one of the best this year so far.

posting it tho coz there are even more gaming references in the lyrics!!

Reign Man;
Droog: ā€œdo em like Jake did son in front of Rosario, if anything Iā€™m the evil twin like Warioā€
Fahim: ā€œlike Zangief I slam on beatsā€

A Long Time Coming;
Droog: ā€œto Kingsborough watching chucks gone plural(?), teaching myself real guitar, you were playing Guitar Heroā€

90 From the Line;
Droog: ā€œsee herbs copy my style like we didnā€™t see shit, video games wasnā€™t the only 16 bitā€ ā† this one is genuinely clever lol

yes! Labcabincalifornia! One of my top 5 albums of all time, and very early Dilla work

that and Like Water for Chocolate are my favorite Dilla productions

and since we posted SWV:

SOULS OF SIN is simultaneously a rap album and a Dark Souls DLC

where do I even begin with this album

well, this track is about video games!

2020, from Ktown in LA, this guy is my generation. Heā€™s humble and so talented, he doesnā€™t have to flex it. Just a genius. He works at the same record slurpus my homie goes to buy his records from, including this very album which Iā€™m listening to on vinyl as I write this. My new favorite hip hop album, love this kid.

Only reason Iā€™m posting this in here and not in its own thread is because the thread is for good raps, not good hip hop
