Gotta discuss 'em all!! (The Pokémon Thread)

Pokémon Brown received a 20 year anniversary patch. I recall downloading this and many other Game Boy rom hacks from Limewire, Brown may have been one of the best given it is a new region and story.

This is a very old-head nitpick, a geezer rant.

but with how much they talk up their artwork and attempts to make the poke-gen1/2-gen3-transporter appear like an official game freak release, I really wish they used characters and pokemon native to generations 1-3 instead of… whoever these fuckers are that I don’t care about and have no idea who they are.

Like who is this??? I’m going ffrom pokemon red to pokemon sapphire here.

… Not sexist either, I know who Professor Juniper is… That would be more acceptable to me… Who tf is this lady though. Does she even know what a GAME BOY is?

Sounds harsh and ungrateful sure. I know it’s more work. But I’m hoping they add other versions or graphics… or just have it without any graphics and I’ll feel like a hacker. Cause I’m uncomfortable displaying this dumb thing on my gba. (referring to the gear-shaped pokemon I can’t find photos of)

It feels appropriate to me, there’s a trend of side-characters built for novel experiences coming back in odd places, like Burnet first appearing in Dream Radar and then coming back as an important character years later in Sun/Moon. In this alternate universe, Fennel being introduced as part of the Transporter GB tool and then coming back to introduce Dream World years later makes sense :-)

If they had to pick someone of the era, Brigette, who hosted Pokemon Box Ruby & Sapphire and then later Bank would have made a lot of sense, but is maybe too on-the-nose.

And I respect your opinion!

There is a huge pool. I agree with Pokémon box but I don’t think it’d be too on the nose since it’s kind of a defunct option anyhow!

There’s a similar utility made by an italian guy that has very little in the way of graphics and slightly different use case. I feel like the Poke Transporter was designed mainly with the user who’s going to transfer all the way up to the most recent gen in mind. The italian dude’s thing is more flexible and seems to be better for my use case, only working within gen 1-5

Also his user icon is Mr.Saturn so…

seem to have misplaced my copy of Pokemon Stadium 2… uh oh… that N64 box was chocked full.

Something really neat I did with pokemon transporter/gen3 to genx:
I started a run of Pokemon Red on original hardware, raised a geodude to beat Lt.Surge.
Then I transferred Geodude to my already in progress run of Emerald version and used him to defeat Wattson.
Then I transported Geodude back to Gen 1. Now as I play red version, I do so with the knowledge that my geodude has EXP gained by defeating a gym leader in the hoenn region.

Neither program seems to work with my bootleg gen 3 carts which is a shame. same for flashcarts. I’m going to see if I can’t build a pseudo-authentic gen 3 cart for like half the price of an authentic copy?.. Not even sure if poke-transporter would work since you have to beat the elite 4. There’s a lot I don’t like about poke-transporter lol. The way they chose to gamify it is interesting, but not at all how I would do it.

Black and White were probably my favorite Pokémon experiences back when they came out. I went into Black completely blind, so every single Pokémon I saw was a new one I had never seen before. It was the closest I’ve ever come to feeling that same curiosity and wonder that I felt when first playing Pokémon Red/Blue as a kid. That’s pretty amazing. Hope they do a Pokédex like that again in the future.
