I‘ll set up next week’s game tomorrow, and update the OP I guess? That way we aren‘t bombarding the front page of the forum with a new Time Attack every week. Still trying to finalize a pick for the next game, too! Ridge Racer feels almost too obvious? I picked Sega Rally to begin with partially because of its tie to the show (podcast over, yeahhhhhhh!) and partially cause it’s just a classic Sega game and an icon of the Saturn, which felt very appropriate for Insert Credit. But now, there are so many options! Test Drive Le Mans, WipEout 3, Daytona USA, Rage Racer, Virtua Racing, RalliSport Challenge 2, Sega GT Online, Touge King, Wangan Midnight, ManxTT, F1 Challenge, Hang On GP '95, Kaidou Battle, Quantum Redshift (lol), all of these (and many more!!) are rolling around inside my skull like so many dice.
I've considered a poll, but I'm almost wondering . . . Do we do something like let each week's winner pick the next week's game? That might be fun?? Thoughts?
@“andrewelmore”#p129787 I like a poll! I also like expanding to score attack as well as time attack but I‘m not sure if that should be it’s own thread or what
@“andrewelmore”#p129786 Okay, my Saturn crashed again, so I’m taking that as my cue to call it. I know I can do better, but I’m starting to worry about the health of this thing!
hope it's ok! Mine was having an issue where it was crashing on boot. I opened it up and blew the dust off, and now it seems to be ok.

@“andrewelmore”#p129787 next week’s game
Ridge Racer does seem the obvious choice. Whatever we pick should probably be simple/arcadey enough that we aren't bogged down with options/multiple cars/tuning/ect.
A poll is probably a good idea, although having the winner pick the game could keep it interesting.
@“andrewelmore”#p129787 I also think it‘d be lovely to have the leaderboard in the OP (perhaps as an embed + link, as in @“hellomrkearns”#99’s post, so you don't have to update it manually)! That way, you could tell at a glance what to aim for. (Perhaps put past OPs under “Details” sections in the OP…?)
@"exodus"#p129788 I love the idea of a score attack! Personally, I think it might attract a different crowd (or at least tickle a different sensibility in people), so it wouldn't be unreasonable for it to be a different thread. I know I'd be more attracted by a score attack. Dunno about whether we need a score attack and a time attack running *simultaneously* each week, though – whether people would be stretched too thin…
i don't think the Sega Championship Rally community is very active on speedruning.com but I just realized I could steal the 5th place slot for the desert stratos 3 lap category and the 1 lap category if I wanted to
@“exodus”#p129788 I have been going back and forth on this since at least a month before starting this thread lol. I'm still nowhere closer to an answer.
@"hellomrkearns"#p129792 Yeah I emailed Christa, I'm probably just gonna take it to her some time in the next few weeks.
@"Gaagaagiins"#p129805 can you edit thread names??? that would be a perfect solution tbh! Might also attract more eyeballs!
@"穴"#p129808 YOOOOOOOOOO LIGHT EM UP LETS GOOOOOOOO
Also, the “seven days” thing was always arbitrary, and this is the first one, so personally I'm not too terribly worried if we want to take a few days to come to a good collective solution on what would be the best/easiest way to go forward! Keeping it chill. Save all the hustle and bustle for the RACE TRACK.
@“andrewelmore”#p129899 how about we set up a vote on it? (Can you do polls that aren't the first post?)
**Time limit** - a week? A month? I think a week is good in keeping with the speedyness of the event. Keeps it fresh and interesting.
**Game picks** - winner picks, a vote, something else? The monthly game club seems to have a good system going with picking games at random from a list added to by members.
**Time or score** - I think both could fit depending on the specific game. Keeping the rules tight and clear for each game will be key.
First off, assuming this spreadsheet is up to date, congratulations to Plum over on Cohost for kicking our collective butts, which is appropriate since he also more or less kicked this off lol. But a big congrats to our own @ana for apparently falling into a Sega Rally speedrun career!! And one more shout-out to @wickedcestus for rounding out our first Podium finish!!
Please enjoy the first inaugural Insert Credit Time Attack Trophy JPEG, I guess!
As for the rest of us (Thee Res Tofus), here's a ranked choice voting poll to seelct the next game and course from a group of five options, in a randomized order:
https://strawpoll.com/eNg695kM0nA
I'll let this poll run all weekend, and we'll have our next Time Attack beginning on Monday!
Thank you for bearing with me as I try to figure out how to give this thing some structure as we go, haha.
But also thank you all SO much for making this project come alive! I had no idea there would be such a strong response, it's been so fun!
Honoured to stand on the third rung of the podium. I will continue to try my best but I've probably played more rally games than any other sort of racing game, and I feel like not having to press the brake pedal was a major boon because picking braking points is usually where I completely fall apart.
@“wickedcestus”#p130374 I promise there will be Much More Rally to come, my friend
I too, love the cars what go flying through the air and bouncing around corners between trees at 95mph that always look like they're screaming in terror.
There was a defunct Sega Rally “Net Time Attack” Homepage that every summer held an Tokyo Game Center meetup to crown the “King of the Desert”, a reference to the Lancia Stratos. This thread reminds me of the same spirit!
