at least 99 coins. I think how it works is that the social welfare and taxation system of the mushroom kingdom force rich people to give all of their income away for public healthcare purposes when they reach 100 coins of accumulated wealth. That makes mario sound decent and not republican, but I also think he only hangs out with Peach and the government cause he wants a high up rank in the kingdom to lower taxes and abolish the healthcare system.
