Is Mario a Republican??? (longest forum thread ever)

Tonight I stumbled onto ā€œMario, Not So Super at Fortyā€ in The New Yorker. It’s, uh, something:

The thing that’s so hard about turning forty is it forces you to take-a stock of how you’re doing. And, to be honest, I’m-a not doing so great. These days, my life, it’s-a fucked up. Like, there’s just a lot of super-heavy shit that I’m-a dealing with right now. I guess the best way to explain it is-a to start from the beginning of last week, which is when shit really started to get-a, like, super fucked up.

Probability of being Republican: 40%. 65% if we include ā€œIndependent but ends up voting Republican more often than not.ā€

I mean that has to seal it right? Reagan wouldnt have appointed Mario to that position if he lacked conservative bona fides

ā€œNow you’re playing with powerā€ is never more fitting than when you realize that Mario controls the nukes.

New question, with this in mind.

We now know that Wario was actually German all along.

If Wario was also an adult in the early 90s, that means he was born while Germany was still split into two.

Was Wario from East Germany or West Germany?

I’m gonna guess that regardless of whether he was from East Germany or West Germany, he was a Berliner.

Official Mario Profile info. Seems to be truly a man of virtue.

(also a great video that has some insight as to why Paper Mario stopped being creative and interesting after the first few)

:point_up:Tolerance, pretty definitively a value of the left, not the right.

Counterpoint: Lots of conservatives pretend to be tolerant, or truly believe they are tolerant, or are tolerant on an individual, face-to-face basis, but still materially support systemic intolerance, since a lot of that is laundered through superficially wellmeaning social policy, or it’s just how overall economic wet blanketism indirectly contributes to exacerbating social intolerances and stress points.

Maybe this is less pronounced down south but Canadian conservatism is I think often like this, or at least was until more recently when American style fash-lite populism infected the Canadian conservative hive mind more in more recent times They didn’t want to look like weirdo freak psychopaths too publicly so they’d say nice sounding things to media while subtly undermining socially progressive stuff in the background. Stephen Harper was like that–he got recognized for saying publicly he wouldn’t go after abortion if elected and didn’t want to re-open the abortion debate, only for the party to slip in things that impeded access to abortion or even petty shit like being against Dr. Henry Morgentaler’s recognition with the Order of Canada.

Dunno if that dynamic applies to Mario, though.

Mario being curious does make him sound a little more open to others’ ideas, even if the main things he’s curious about are pipes and shrooms. Him bashing his head into things to find out what’s in them may indicate a different kind of problem though.
