I've become a giant Cleopatra Fortune fan

Seeing the Saturn boxart again reminded me

@Personasama#13933 That seems like the best way. This guide for storing old newspapers seems to suggest that. Make a good copy for display and store it in a good polyethylene bag.

I was playing the Saturn version for the first time in a while, and I’m surprised at how loud the SFX sound mixing is? It’s like 10x louder than the game audio which is the opposite of how the arcade version sounds, but consistent with the PS1 and DC ports. Saturn version also has additional SFX that the arcade version doesn’t have (like menu selection noises), and the art for Mission Mode is different from the PS1 and DC versions!

It's clearly more polished than the arcade version, but it’s interesting that they redrew all the Mission Mode art for later ports. I think the cutscene art looks better in later ports but the god portraits look better on the Saturn. I’ll need to take screenshots next time I play.

Also I got to Mission 35 in one sitting. That one is a real head scratcher, with all the mummy stacking šŸ¤”

@Personasama#13933 Sorry, I have no idea what the right thing to do is  I just know lamination is bad.

@hellomrkearns#13951 ah heck, I should’ve read this sooner because I totally just took a look at these fliers with ungloved hands, shoot.

I can’t believe the seller kept such good care of these original documents for 26 years. They came bubble wrapped in a thin plastic sheet folder each. I wonder if that’s good enough for preservation? Now I need to borrow a scanner šŸ¤”

@Personasama#14035 sounds like what the paper was shipped in would be good enough! like you say, they look real crisp!

After putting a few hours into the Saturn version, uhhhhhhhhhh I kind of think it's not as good as the arcade version???

Things that are different:

  • - the sound mixing is really off. The SFX are 2x louder than the BGM. In the arcade version, the BGM is the loudest element, which is as it should be because who doesn't want to listen to SHININ' QUEEN????
  • - after placing a piece, there's basically no pause. If you're holding down, the next piece will come flying down with no wait at all, which is totally different from the arcade version!!!
  • Upsides:

  • - has a mission mode with new cutscenes
  • - adds a few new SFX
  • I wonder if it's because I didn't pick the option for using the Ram Expansion Cart? Or maybe a problem with using the Retroarch Saturn Beetle Core? I dunno, but it's really bothering me how different it is from the arcade version.

On the other hand, I did record footage comparing the Saturn/PS1/DC Misison modes. I need to upload them.

@Personasama#14308 Oh wait, I also recorded this good clip while I was struggling with the Saturn version's different piece placement delay:

I made a video capturing the attract mode and all Story Mode cutscenes of Cleopatra Fortune Plus:

    https://youtu.be/TbG4KRBr59c

There's a special cutscene you can only see if you 1CC the game. I did both to check lol

Also it's the first new video I posted on my Youtube channel in 2 years. Yay

Thanks to Ant Cooke of Gaming Hell (are you on ic? Where you at? I forgot your username) for giving me a head's up!

In other news, I received my copy of Saturn Cleopatra Fortune andddd uhhhh I bought a scanner just to scan the manual, the flyers, and the Arcadia magazine in. I'll upload those when I get the scanner next week lol

The Cleopatra Fortune abyss is deep and full of mummies

hmm, I am interested to try the arcade version again now that I hear you say the saturn one has movement/placement tweaks.

I reallllly like the mission/mystery mode though, so it remains my favorite regardless.

@exodus#15096 I didn't know it had more than 50 missions until Gaming Hell updated their post on it: http://gaminghell.co.uk/CleopatraFortuneMysteryMode.html

    I don't think I've gotten past like 36

I need to check what mission Iā€˜m on, I felt like it was in the high 40s? the difficulty comes in waves, for sure. guess I’m close to the halfway point!

Wow… there really is a lot of treasure in this thread…

(coming dangerously close to placing the final block on top of it all and making it disappear...)

    I figured it out:

    FINALLY DID IT!!!

FINALLY TOOK THE PLUNGE AFTER 4 MONTHS!!! It was a birthday present to myself/early mid life crisis present, I guess.

Also got a whole supergun setup and a Taito F3 motherboard just to play this. I hope all the stuff works. We'll find out in a month when everything arrives. The Taito F3 motherboard was kind of dirty and worn down looking, and missing its black frame entirely, but it was the only one I could find :////

    congrats and happy birthday!

i burned a disc of the saturn version a couple months ago thanks to this thread and been enjoying it. it's officially been added to the rotation of Games Playable with the Partner.

nice - Iā€˜m glad I didn’t become a giant fool and buy this myself.

but when I'm next in japan I might become a giant fool and buy it myself

@exodus#29218 Nice, we can be fools together then!!!

let's create netplay for the taito f-3.
