Developed by Millennium Kitchen (the developers of Boku no Natsuyasumi) and released on the eShop in Japan on March 13, 2013 and world-wide on July 18, 2013.
Nominated by @100syndromes, here’s what they have to say:
Gorgeous game, a great on-ramp to the Boku no Natsuyasumi series/Kaz Ayabe works. Perfect for summer AND a 3ish hour runtime
(Sorry that it’s not summer any longer!)
This brings up a new issue for the MGC—game that’s no longer available to purchase. I have this on my 3DS still, but will folks have a way to play this if they don’t already own it? Let me know! We’re learning and growing.
I played this game when it came out and enjoyed hanging out with it! I have fond memories. Would love to revisit it. It was my first exposure to this type of game.
I finally played through this whole thing a few months ago and found it very charming but definitely a little thin. I’d say even with how short it is it still feels very slightly too long. Beautiful game though!
I’ve started and dropped this game too many times (and i legally bought it ages ago!) but this will be the time I’ll finish it
modding a 3ds is a very simple and worthwhile task tho and not to get too off topic but itd be fun to get a game of MK7 online with pretendo on the forum
Despite having played Crimson Shroud and Liberation Maiden, I forgot they even existed. Weird little games, but interesting none-the-less. Upon (briefly) starting Attack of the Friday Monsters! I immediately picked up on the Boku no vibes, could tell it was a Millenium Kitchen work even without seeing the logo at the start. Curious to see where it goes.
I’ve been meaning to mod mine since the store went down, but I remember at one point it was tricky to do with certain models or if you had certain firmware already. Seems like all that was cleared up?
Trying to play this with everyone seems like a good opportunity to finally get my 3ds taken care of.
LOVE this game! i don’t often participate in these monthly clubs but this one can be done in a sitting or two in an afternoon or evening so i probably will go for it again. here’s what i said about it earlier here in 2023, slightly edited for clarity/minor spoilerity, about how i love that the game is …
i also went into the whole nostalgia thing in that post where i rambled (a lot!) about how it really hit me emotionally for that time period, despite not having experienced that era of japan directly. i was a kid growing up in the pnw in the late 20th century tho, and had a decent amount of japanese/east asian culture around me just circumstantially (and took japanese language classes in high school, and went to japan for a wee lil bit in the '90s) so even though the game isn’t “about” me exactly, i was still able to intuit quite a bit. feeling nostalgia for something i didn’t experience first-hand was another cool bit of sleight-of-hand the game does.
i dunno man it’s a great lil nug of a game and it’s so cool they released it in english!! doing the 3ds hack is hella easy and it’s an obvious must-play on the system for me! i’m gonna charge my 3ds right now so i can jump in again!
Bought this on the last day of the 3DS shop and blasted through it. Very sweet game. Definitely pushed my interest in Boku more and then Hilltop released the translation which was incredible. I recently bought Natsumon as well so we’re Ayabe rich now!
I loved this game! I got turned on to this and the other Guild games from Insert Credit. This one and Crimson Shroud were my favorites. It’s still the only Boku no style game I’ve played, but it has left me wanting to explore those games at some point. I typically have a soft spot for games that explore childhood experience and perception. Games like Costume Quest, It Takes Two, Earthbound and Kingdom Hearts (specifically 1 and 358/2). I still have it on my 3DS, but it’s awesome to know it emulates well on citra :)
