Surely this influential thread is partly responsible :
A Kirby song cover just won a Grammy

Well, Kirby so far, has definitely been scratching the itch I’ve wanted to scratch. It’s perfect for my gaming life; train, lunch break and bed at night.
It’s very snackable and not difficult but also not boring easy. Just breezy.
I’ve also been mixing it up with the Ace Attorney Chronicles which is a great time too. I haven’t played one of them Ace Attorneys in a while.
@“Punzai”#p64840 your experience is just like mine, except swap out Ace Attorney for Fuga! and you made me realize something: this new Kirby isn‘t easy, it’s just perfectly balanced.
@“chazumaru”#p64790 Not to be harsh, and I know it would make a lot of those brass licks extremely hard to play cleanly, but… I refuse to acknowledge an arrangement of Meta Knight's Revenge that is even a hair slower than 160 BPM
@“Gaagaagiins”#p64915 Frankly, not the biggest fan of this tune either! 8BBB has done at least ten more memorable covers in the past year alone. But I am not very familiar with the Grammys and assume it’s like the Oscars, mostly giving away prizes to the right people but for the wrong work.Grammies

Oh now THAT is some hotness!!!!! Even if it [isn't exactly an original idea](https://youtu.be/AGnsv4OOxbA)
One of the most recent Shmuplations articles is a developer interview for Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland (2002).
Kirby got a shout out in the latest ‘cast. Assuming because of this thread and nothing else.
Also just remembered this classic playlist: Tim Rogers’ “video game music I do not want playing while I have sex”

Just want to hop in to say that pretty far into the new Kirby it's pretty much what I hoped for - it still has the emphasis on big flashy cutscenes that has come to prominence with the 3D games, but adds in a lot of secret hunting, mode switching, and variable challenges. Low floor and high ceiling in the difficulty.
One thing this brings to mind is, can anyone recommend some other games with the secret-hunting aspect of Kirby? I think the new game has it, but from the older games my favorite part is how it worked in The Great Cave Offensive. It's not something I see that often in other games that aren't fantastically hard... Hyper Light Drifter comes to mind, where the combat was kind of hard but the exploration element wasn't.
@“polm23”#p65085 To keep it squarely on Kirby, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror is basically the soul of The Great Cave Offensive from Kirby Super Star manifesting as a whole game. People every now and then try to call it a Metroidvania, which isn‘t exactly true since you’re not gaining any permanent abilities that effect how you can traverse the world; instead it‘s a matter of going down a series of winding paths, noticing all the extra paths along the way which require certain abilities to go down, and then being mindful to bring those abilities with you next time you find yourself around that area. To put it simply; it’s a game where progress is focused squarely on the passive thoughtfulness that‘s present in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Inside of those branching paths is even more hidden paths that will lead you to all sorts of collectible treasures, including different cute colors you can apply on Kirby, which is one of the best bonus rewards in a game I can think of. It’s an interesting flavor of game that leans more towards Metroidvania than Course Clear, but still isn‘t exactly one or another, and is definitely worth checking out if you’re into Kirby and the Forgotten Land both in terms of its low difficulty and its minute-by-minute decision making.
@“polm23”#p65085 The Game Boy Wario games have an explicit treasure-hunting element—the first one is a traditional Mario World-style platformer with distinct levels/worlds, the second one is a linear-but-not-really game that forces you to manipulate enemy-inflicted transformations to discover secrets and alternate branches, and the third one is a quasi-metroidvania inasmuch as you're constantly revisiting levels as you gain new abilities and trigger alterations to the levels themselves (to a degree that I find tedious, frankly).
In case you weren't aware, there's a particular trilogy of Kirby games (Kirby's Dream Land 2, Dream Land 3 and 64) that really lean into using copy/buddy abilities to discover hidden items—these three games were all made during Sakurai's time at HAL but directed by somebody else, and I can't say I find them as interesting as Sakurai's games, but they have their fans.
I went ahead and got Forgotten Land to play in bed while I move house – basically rebuilding from scratch, so it‘s a long tedious process, for which Kirby is the perfect salve. It’s such a smooth fizzy beverage as has already been discussed, but as a tiny very personal anecdote for how frictionless this game is: the very first moment of tiny frustration or displeasure that I expressed to myself was during the hanglider segment, where I muttered “I need inverted flight controls here.” No sooner did a button prompt appear – without pausing the game or anything – to invert the controls
What a pleasant game.
This music is great and a “cool” choice for the level it’s in…

@“Punzai”#p65164 I was just talking with someone the other day about what the single best track in the game would be - we never reached a conclusion, but this was one of the first-considered contenders….
@“Funbil”#p65170 I also just found out why this track has a Ver.1 and a Ver.2
I did not know I needed Canadian French Kirby in my life this much. They also have a proper Mexican Spanish version for @“穴”#580 and @“yeso”#385 . Here are the US and UK versions.

@“chazumaru”#p65564 OH MY GOD, BEN CUTE
@“chazumaru”#p65564 I wonder who did the music for these? It's really pretty
@“Funbil”#p65581 Not sure, but since this was handled by Warpstar directly, I assume the soundtrack either comes from earlier Kirby media or was created specifically for the video by a Kirby composer.
