I saw Kent back in 2016 during their previous last ever show. Felt like such a resolute finale that I had no desire to see them again now, funny how that works.
I’m so jealous! What an awesome bunch of bands.
Those were great shows and everyone I met was so kind!
George Clanton came to town, and it was really delightful. It was outdoors, and he started while the sun was still out. So props to being thoughtful to the middle aged folks. Although when the venue converted their shared parking lot into an additional venue space, I wish they converted the asphalt to something a little easier to stand on for long periods of time.
The show was really fun. I love his music. His ability to translate experimental/electronic values into authentic pop sensibilities is really unique, I think. He was pretty enjoyably silly with his banter between songs. The drumming was great. The visual presentation was very cool. There were two laser light type things projected outwards above us, and you could occasionally see really beautiful abstract things above us, like glistening glitter and thick blue velvet. And the screen behind him was really cool, great imagery throughout for each song. And he did not pick favorites in the console wars, as there were flashes of Sonic and Tails as well as Bowser and Duck Hunt.
I saw Beach House tonight and it was a beautiful evening. I couldn’t see the stage at all, but they had plenty of colors and shapes to look at projected behind them. The visuals ranged from blank VHS tape packaging aesthetic, to early 3d skybox night sky, and a long drive in the countryside at twilight. Now that I’m looking at the words I just wrote, that’s a pretty good way to describe the music, too. Very good show and one of those weird nights where we kept running into people we know but haven’t seen in years. They didn’t play my favorite song, but that’s ok. There was plenty of good stuff and I’ll be thinking about this show for a while.
I did a dumb thing and worked from 5 am last Saturday until about 8:50 am, then drove from my home for 7 and a half hours to Omaha, Nebraska to see Protest the Hero and Between the Buried and Me. 2 of my favorite bands in one show. Protest being a bucketlist band for me. BtBaM played my favorite album of theirs plus another great album in their entirities. Coma Ecliptic and Alaska.
The following day (after drinking many beers the previous night) I drove the 7.5 hours back home. It was such a short trip but i really needed it. Both bands played very well and I completely lost my voice that night.
I’m going to see them in a few days, too! I’ve been wanting to see Protest the Hero for years and never got the chance so I’m really excited. I’ve seen btbam a couple times, but they don’t often play much from Alaska when I did so this is really good news. I bounce between that and Parallax II as my favorite albums of theirs. I’d say your harsh journey was well worth it, I’d’ve probably done the same if I were in your shoes.
Yeah for sure, ive been waiting for a Protest tour that was anywhere near me and finally lucked out. They played a good mix of old stuff and newer stuff.
I really like Parallax and Coma, then Colors. But truly i like pretty much all of btbam. I know some people really didnt vibe with thr Automatas, but i still appreciate them. Colors 2 was pretty good but only ever listend a few times.
I had seen btbam one other time and it was when they toured Coma Ecliptic. Their encore was Selkies, and i thought that might be only time I would ever hear something from Alaska live, but here we were with the whole album.
Enjoy the show! Give your voice a warmup before it starts lol
