Last music concert you’ve been

Hi there!

I’ve searched for a topic like this and couldn’t find it, so here’s one.

Which was the last concert you guys have been?

As for me, I just atendend on Tuesday a Jerry Cantrell solo concert in São Paulo, Brazil.

As the main composer of Alice In Chains, his music is hardly uplift stuff, but I’ve been a fan for decades. Loved every second of it. Bought two T-shirts too.

Also, I’ve got to hear Sea Of Sorrow live, something that his main band doesn’t play anymore.

My Last concert was Noname at the Royal in Boston 2019 (wow so long ago). I loved it and the encore was “Shadowman” my favorite track by her (at the time and probably still)

I saw Buckethead a few years ago at what was frankly a pretty disappointing show. I wasn’t a huge fan of his by that point. I was just sort of checking a box for younger me. Not long after, they sold that venue and now there’s no good local place to see live music. I’m also in an awkward place in the country where most bands don’t go (they usually don’t go south of Orlando). Those are my excuses for not seeing live music in years.

I always have to travel to see live music too. I live some 500 km from São Paulo and this concert was on a freaking Tuesday. Good thing my boss is a rock/metal fan too so she gets it.

I saw Muse in early 2023 at the United Center in Chicago. They’re my favorite band. Was my 4th time seeing them. I’ve seen them a couple times in smaller venues, and a couple at the stadium. It rules. Their stadium tour shows are a huge spectacle. Like, it ended with a giant animatronic, flaming demon popping up on stage. :smiling_imp:

Do symphonic concerts count? If so, I saw Final Symphony earlier this year in Malmö. It was interesting to compare the experience to the many times I’ve been to Distant Worlds–it felt a lot more like the “Distant Worlds intimate evening” thing I went to in 2012-ish, where there were far fewer people and the energy was a bit lower, calmer maybe.

Otherwise it might be Celtic Woman over a decade ago or something, I don’t know.

But of course they count!

I used to go see live music all the time, last concert I went to was about ten years ago. It was Smashmouth, of all things. It was a free concert and I could always have a good time at shows no matter who was playing. I ended up getting a very bad panic attack before they went on, so we left early. I don’t do large gatherings anymore so concerts are out of the cards. I guess the would make the last act I actually saw excluding that… Neon Indian maybe?

My most recent show was Heavenly playing at a small festival in Santiago. I wasn’t expecting to ever see them live so it was a pretty fulfilling night. Plus, all the food was vegan.
I don’t have any other concerts scheduled beyond trying to catch my friends’ bands whenever I can.

Not counting like bar venue music which I see from time to time, I guess it was Alvvays over the summer. My friend is a big fan, and they were very good live.

Hey, a panic attack happened to me in a Manowar concert once in 2010. I went to the local ER and was scolded for having drugs, and I said “but lady, I don’t even drink”.

Eventually my breathing returned to normal and I had a great time anyway.

My last show was Dia de los Deftones.

Lots of fun, got to see Gel (a hardcore band from New Jersey who always seem to play music from the Ace Attorney games during their set??? at least they have both times I’ve seen them now), HEALTH, Sunny Day Real Estate, IDLES, and of course Deftones.

I’ve only been to two real concerts in my life. The first, my dad took me to see Janet Jackson’s velvet rope tour when she was strapping men to furniture and grinding on them at an age (11!!) when I probably shouldn’t have seen folks getting strapped to furniture. (Which, now that I think about it, Explains Some Things About Me).

The other concert I went to was this year. Went to the “bisexual women with straight male partners” symposium (of which i am a card carrying member) otherwise known as a Hozier concert with my best friend in creation. And it was special for us because we both fell in love with our Woke Fairy King at the same time and used a lot of his work in our fanfictions. Cried most of the way through, screamed myself hoarse, loved every minute of it.

I saw Muse at a stadium show like a decade ago and indeed it was a great time! Matt Bellamy had the presence of a magician while on stage and he kept doing cool lighting tricks while singing. Then a huge pyramid of screens came down over the drummer that played videos of an animated drummer, and when the screen went back up the drummer had changed into the animated drummer’s outfit.

I just went to see my favorite band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard last week at the Frost Amphitheater at Stanford. Naturally, it was tons of fun. Seeing these guys has been a semi-yearly thing for us and it had been a couple years since we’d seen them last. They always put on a great show and the crowd has lots of fun energy. They’d released a handful of albums since I’d seen them last so I had a whole list of songs I was hoping they’d play and they played nearly all of them! I also wore my wizard costume (because duh) and I brought some 3D glasses since they do a song about 3D glasses and they played that song while I was wearing them! Woohoo!!

They are a goofy bunch and like to mess around on stage. At one point someone threw a shirt on stage and Stu, the front man, put it on. He asked if anyone else had any fashion recommendations and a thrift shop’s worth of clothing started flying on stage and he started putting it all on. By the time he was done he was wearing 5 shirts and a fur coat a hat and glasses and he played that way for a while.

I know some people were using the general music thread to post about concerts but a dedicated one is a good idea!

Last show I was at was Boris on Halloween night. Amazing show and maybe the loudest concert I’ve ever been to. Very glad I remembered my hearing protection.

Question, has anyone else noticed that some people bring squeaky toys as noise makers to shows? I wanna say I’ve heard them at the last two I’ve seen. I don’t really mind unless they start using it during the music.

I saw Charli XCX last month in Miami.
It was a great show!

The last show I saw I’m pretty sure was Hollow Suns on their most recent US tour, they were reaaaaal good.

Tonight I’m gonna see a Korean Hardcore band called Slant that are also quite good.

I’m going to a couple in Japan next week that are bound to be quite cool.

My brain is a mess but I THINK the last show I went to was Karyn White. She had someone from Tony toni tone as a guest for a duet which was cool. She sang and danced and was generally extremely good. My partner who hadn’t previously heard of her enjoyed it as well. White complained of not being able to “shake my booty like I used to” but all evidence was to the contrary. I am old and like shows where I can sit down (ha ha)

Here’s her doing my favorite song of hers 36 years ago (lol)
