@“copySave”#p122605 Oh I‘ve been using the Mister with SCART and loving it. I’m just saying how much I rather that than using my flatscreen computer monitor or the big LED TV in my living room. I think I‘d probably have gotten more satisfactory use out of the Pi if it’d been an RGB-Pi.
If any of you lovely CRT-havers is playing the July 2023 Monthly Game Club game on your CRT, could you please take a cheeky photo or two and post them in here? I'd love to see some Outrun Coast 2 Coast shots on your screens.
@“rejj”#p122979 I'll be playing it on PS2 so I can send some shots from my JVC. I also have vanilla Outrun 2 for Xbox that I could snap.
Anyone know if it’s possible to hook up a mister to a VGA tube monitor? I got a SyncMaster 1100P+ for a great price for the Dreamcast which looks absolutely glorious. I know there’s probably some line doubling settings that will have to be enabled but wondering if there’s anything else to keep in mind.
@“rejj”#p122979
Recorded some footage because why not. Used my Steam Deck and a 480i scan converter. This in a Panasonic Tau 27" over S-Video.

Here is the scaler:

I'll take some zoomed in screenshots of the TV later too.
@“autoNamed”#p123040 Yes - the Dreamcast supports 480p, no additional hardware required other than the cable. Most Dreamcast games support 480p. There are some 480i only games that have a 480p patch as well, but anything else would require an OSSC or other sc
@“copySave”#p123049 sorry, my post was probably not clear enough but I was more wondering if it’s possible to get native VGA out of a MiSTer, preferably without a scaler?
@“autoNamed”#p123053 Yes (sorry read too sloppily lol) - just enable the scandoubler in the .ini file:
`[MiSTer]
...
forced_scandoubler=1 ; set to 1 to run scandoubler on VGA output always (depends on core).
...
`
This will "double" the 15khz 240p signal to 31khz 480p. Looks super crisp and clean. You can add scanlines in the 'Video' settings of the core's MiSTer menu for more of a 240p look.
You can also output the MiSTer at the monitor's preferred resolution and use pre-made MiSTer video filters with integer scaling for more of a consumer CRT look. Check out [this post for a couple examples](https://forums.insertcredit.com/d/1053-lets-discuss-crt-tv-ownership/555) of scandoubled vs filtered.
@rejj Alright - here's some Outrun 2006 CRT pics. Still using the Windows version on a Steam Deck at 480i. TV is a Panasonic Tau 27" using S-Video.
@“copySave”#p123074 aww yeah, thanks!
Man - having too much fun with this scan converter.
Installed VLC on the Steam Deck and am now enjoying a disgusting nostalgia trip courtesy of my media server.
@“tomjonjon”#p123134 Wow 36 inches! Looks amazing!
Talk about a stone of triumph!

@“copySave”#p123135 It is a big ‘ole lug for sure. Picked it up around this time last year. Finally feel like I have the geometry where I’d like it (probably shouldn't have messed with it in the first place!)
@“tomjonjon”#p123242 yeah service menus are quite OCD inducing, especially when you think you have it, then load up a different game and something else is slightly off - lol. Again, I think it looks awesome - great find and calibration!
This is a good thread
All right, Cathode Ray Tubers. Show me your chairs, couches, etc.! Especially folks what put their CRT setup in a separate room/area. Mine‘s in a small side room and I haven’t found any kind of seating situation in there that works. It‘s too small to fit anything like a futon or whatever, and I’ve tried beanbags but my back is too bad for that, lol. So I just use a crappy folding chair that‘s on its last legs. It's basically this thing but even cheaper. I really need to get rid of it, but there’s so little space in that dumb little room that I haven‘t found a suitable replacement yet. It’s bad enough that I find myself subconsciously not even using that room at all often times because my Very Bad Back dreads that stupid chair. I think it‘s also just too low to the ground. I’m 6'2" so maybe I just need something higher up off the floor.
Show and tell, friends, where do you plant your butts
More CRT Outrun
