Monsters: be they Capsule, Digital, in your Pocket, or down on the old Farm

@Toph it immediately reminded me of oyajitchi, the first generation secret worst tamagotchi.

I think it makes sense culturally as a gag item, like maybe something you’d find at the japanese equivalent of spencer’s gifts? public intoxication is a whole different situation over there, and it’s pretty funny.

@Toph actually I just read that the entire story setting of Tamagotchi is founded on oyajitchi’s alcoholism:

@treefroggy Oh I'm not knocking its existence or anything. I actually would love to try one out. Its better than what you might find in Spencers nowadays, which the last time I was in one half of it was just sex toys. A drunk mouse simulator on a keychain would be a welcome addition!

@Toph yeah no problem just sharing information.

PS:

Oyajitchi is so powerful that he became a Digimon

@treefroggy

Just ordered a few glow in the dark background cards!! Super excited to try those out.

Does anyone remember doing the tab pull trick with their vpets? I don’t know if it worked with anything else, but my friends and I discovered that if you mess with the little battery tab that you pull out of the Digimon when you first get it by pushing it in and out while pressing buttons, it glitched out the system or whatever and could produce random results.

We would try and get strong Digimon to battle with. My friend swears he got Skull Greymon from the show by doing this but he said it died shortly after he got it.

@milo wow dude, hadn’t thought about this in like 25 years.
there’s a lot of stuff like this when I was a kid before the internet where I’d mess around in games and stuff and discover glitches or secrets. Often times they go undocumented online (of course) and when some zoomer posts it he’s always like “I’M THE FIRST ONE TO EVER DO THIS”…. lol… Discovering stuff like the THIEF mechanic of Link’s Awakening on my own was wild and makes it one of the coolest secrets ever imo.
I definitely did this battery jumping trick. You’re literally circuit-bending it btw!!!

I started playing the Medabots game for GBA. Not to shabby.

@milo Holy crap, just like treefroggy I haven’t thought about this in over 20 years. We absolutely did it too although I can’t remember if I actually witnessed any outcomes as cool as 40 year old computermon.

@milo

Skull Greymon was a possibility on Ver 2 of the original V-pet.

So he was potentially telling the truth.

Waiting for Cyber Sleuth to go back on sale to make a video out of it. It is a good game that addresses a fair few frustrations that I have with Pokémon. A humble 7/10. Looking forward to the 3rd Digimon Story title that has been worked on.

@milo

@HyggeState link your channel dude!

@treefroggy It is bad!

@treefroggy

Ahhhh cool!!

That thing is positively radioactive!

I was about as big a Pokémon Red/Blue freak as they come, I love chubby Pikachu so so so much forever and ever.

Digimon I was really hot and heavy into in this order: the show, the virtual pets, Digimon World 1, and then the movie. I named my first hamster Miko after the cat in the movie. I fell off after that but I was pretty intrigued about the new series that brought back the old characters as teens. Also the Cyber Sleuth games seem cool. Froggy’s pets make me wanna get one though, seems like they’re super readily available now :O there are a couple different models: 20th anniversary ones and the “X” models. Based on my reading the 20th anniversary ones are the way to go.

Playing a Digimon game: World Re:Digitize! Both the original PSP version and updated 3DS port are JP only but got English fan translations. I first booted up the 3DS version and was like wow 3DS games are ugly! Then I booted up the PSP version and felt a little softer on the 3DS version lol, they largely look the same but the 3DS screen is a lil brighter and more saturated.

It seems cool! On the 3DS version there is a Twitter-like thing that Digimon use where they tutorialize and talk about toilets

@sabertoothalex yesterday I booted up Digimon World 1 & 3 to try out my new blueretro adapter for playstation. I am many hours deep in DW3 from previous playthroughs but I’m always at a loss in that world. Still, the battles provide instant digigratification.

I’ve always wanted to get into the Digimon World games beyond the first one, but I just love the vpet/rpg system they got going. I feel like once the games become just a standard rpg they lose some of their charm.

To that end, I enjoyed Digimon World Next Order quite a bit.

Also, Digimon World Championship on the DS might be the best non-vpet Digimon to come out of the franchise.

Love those little mon graphics!!!

@milo just like the wonderswan, the virtual pet never reached its seemingly boundless potential
