Ugh, we have to wait til April for games news? I don’t care about this hardware that’s just like the old hardware.
If you’re doing a hardware reveal, at least tell me if it’s an LCD/OLED screen or Hall Effect joysticks or something. It feels very much like they were going to save this to be part of the big April show, but were forced to show it early due to all the leaks.
I think they’re probably going to be fine, but obviously it won’t match the Switch 1’s sales. To me it’s like a DS to 3DS thing, where a lot of people who own the original are going to want to upgrade but just as many won’t see any reason to. A big difference here is that we’re probably looking at at least 2-3 years of everything coming out on the Switch 1 as well, until they release a new big Zelda probably. I don’t really care about generations not mattering as much anymore, but I’m not playing another Nintendo game on my NS1. If I can’t get an NS2 at launch I’m just not playing new Pokemon or Zelda until I can get one
Nintendo manages to not get in it’s own way for once. But because of that it’s lost the zany charm. It would have been an unforced error to move away from a switch design, but adding a number just feels un-Nintendo. Call it a Super Switch at least. and add some dumb feature for people to hyper focus on (the joycons are mouses?). I imagine they’ll do that in the next direct. A switch but more powerful is just still a less powerful machine that plays nintendo games.
That’s what got me. Didn’t even bother to make a new name or add an adjective. Super Nintendo Switch, make it gray with purple accents and it’s easier to overlook that it’s an overdue upgrade rather than new system.
I really would just wanted a better form factor switch with a performance boost. If the rumors check out for the specs, this a huge boost in my eyes. Diminishing returns and all for graphical fidelity for triple A titles I’m never gonna play with our current machines just so happened to come with a welcoming performance standard. Tears of the kingdom holding at 60 is all I think I want to see out of Nintendo right now. Everything else is just icing. People were never gonna stop making games for the switch and I think not having to tweak as much for a switch version of a current year game would only help that.
Mario Kart 9 is a great way to get people to bite the bullet.
I personally think they need Elden Ring to seal the deal. You get that running on that thang at a solid frame rate, say 3-4 hrs continuous play handheld? The handheld PCs are gonna get real good fast from that type of pressure so either way you are gonna be set.
But that’s just high hopes.
If Nintendo doesn’t deliver early life, Capcom always does. I have always owned a Capcom game at launch/ year 1 that does wonders with Nintendo’s hardware. RE: Revelations was such a fun experience on 3ds, Switch was my MonHun mobile home even while playing World and it has the best control scheme of Okami HD. I’ll buy RE8 gold for the switch 2. RE4make would be a poetic homecoming. MH Wilds would be asking for a lot. Them PC specs reqs are looking crazy.
I would be too scared to try that again if I was them too. I was working retail during the OLED launch and people were asking if it was a whole new console or not. I would not want to risk the confusion given they are 3 iterations in and there isn’t a distinct gimmick to set it apart. Average consumer isn’t going to immediately think that the magnetic cons are game changing.
Missed opportunity to call it the 2 Nintendo 2 Switch (to a new form factor).
Nice to have a reveal finally. I wish specs came sooner so the fantasizing online can stop. It’s the same exhausting story every gen with Nintendo. They’re not doing great? Nintendo should give up on hardware like Sega! They follow their 4 decade strategy of cheap but proven hardware? It’s too weak. Nintendo’s NintenDONEdo.
They should’ve called it the SwitcherU. Not buying! >:O
But really…
This is my first time hearing about the potential mouse feature — that actually feels like a pretty big innovation. The amount of control options built into this little portable is pretty incredible. There should’ve been a built in mouse pad in the shape of Mario’s head that unrolls out of the bottom when you open up the little stand.
The logo feels so dated now and the giant 2 slapped on there. Yikes.
I’m a little worried why certain Switch 1 games won’t be compatible >_>
Oh btw the explained reason was apparently it has a dedicate amount of memory like how you’d run a weblet- it downloads the info and stores it every time you go to the shop. But they only gave it 256mb of memory to use…
