Nintendo Direct Thread

I’ll never get used to seeing Paul Rudd’s boyish face in that TVCM.

Well holy cow. A 500gig model is available on amazing for close to a grand. Probably just a couple of hundred over the Switch 2 I imagine.

Valve are selling them officially:

(nintendo lawyers: please do not sue me in to oblivion for posting about other companies and their products in this thread)

I’m not seeing any signs of them doing that. The music in the trailer had only very slight hints of Nintendo character to it, very mainstream, as Nintendo Switch has become. And from the aesthetic design it looks like they’re doing more of the same. All I’m saying is, prepare for disappointment, so we can be pleasantly surprised by a Kazumi Totaka menu theme.

As a long time PC gamer, aiming on a mouse is simply far superior to any other control method - I really struggle to play any FPS game on a controller cause it feels like I have one hand tied behind my back. If they do lean into this mouse thing, I bet you could get like an ergonomic mouse-shaped shell to pop it into.

A big concern for me would be if they offered mouse controls in any online shooty style games, they would be totally dominated by players who opted to use them.

You know what though… I mean… Mario games are actually pretty f%^ked up when you think about it… you are a guy who runs around and crushes guys and throws fireballs… and you even DO DRUGS… but maybe to like get it on that level you have to have a really dark and twisted imagination…

Sometimes I just have these crazy dark and twisted thoughts, like… why does Mario always go after Bowser… like what if instead of the story of Mario games being light and silly… they explored dark and fucked up themes like murder or even like if we were to imagine something pretty fucked up like what if Mario was like a robot or was like possessed by a demon… if he jumped up to go and get Bowser (but not like normally like if he was all fucked up… and evil…) I bet Bowser would actually be like so scared… because it’s not normal for an adult Italian man to like, want to shoot fire at turtles… or to jump on guys (because like if you jumped on a guy from like 10 metres up they would literally explode and get blood and guts everywhere)… not everyone thinks of this kind of stuff so I get it if people think that this post is fucked or or crazy.

I really just think that a lot of people couldn’t handle it if you were to like really think about video games a little deeper and like imagine if they were more realistic. It gets like so fucked up if you do. Cause like if Mario dropped from a height of 10 metres on to a weird little creature, it literally would like probably explode in a bunch of blood and guts and then Mario would like have blood all over him and it’d literally honestly be so scary. And if you imagined that the fireballs he shot out after eating the Fire Flower which is literally like basically drugs?? actually made things catch on fire, like what if a koopa who was minding his own business got trapped in a burning house or something.

Holy cow those prices aren’t too bad actually. Are you planning on getting one?

@treefroggy I’m not expecting too much but it’s pretty disappointing. Like the Wii was super successful and mainstream but still had these fun elements.

Mouse controls will be perfect for visual novel, adventure, and most importantly to me Mario Maker and other such Maker games/anything with a level editor.

Also just for the general system menus and interface.

And of course also for emulating any DS or 3DS games on the big screen, using a cursor for touch. Or finally a good version of the beautiful Kirby canvas curse game which previously you could only play by looking directly at the little 480p gamepad.

Edit: ooh and also any game with a social component that involves drawing, such as Splatoon, people will be able to make so much better art, or have an easier time making their art

Uhhhh . . . . excuse me but, WHAT THE $%#& DID I JUST READ???

[sigh] . . . . . Okay, let me break this down for you: Mario is a video game. They are called video games for a reason and that is that they are FUN!

Video games.
Equals.
FUN.

Miyamoto-san (Mario’s creator, if you didn’t know) understands this about video games, and that is precisely why he doesn’t put any of that weird emo crap in his games. People play Mario to escape, to relax . . . It just wouldn’t make sense.

Not to mention kids couldn’t even play it anymore! I mean, that realistic Mario video actually scared the crap out of me, and I’m an adult. No parent would buy that kind of game for their kid (unless they WANTED to traumatize them), and thus, Nintendo’s sales would plummet . . . . Not a smart move at all!

That said, I think it is clear you have a vivid imagination. If you wrote a book about your Mario ideas I would definitely read it . . . just maybe not before bed . . . [shiver]

Poking the hive with this one.

really hope if Botw remastered is real- it is a free upgrade for owners of the original or at least if you has NSO. Namco Bandai locked in.

Other than the performance boosts and the side by side comparison, I’m pretty skeptical of this.

I hope somehow it immediately works with the switch copy of The World Ends With You because the motion controls in that one were rough. The original switch’s touchscreen wasn’t great, I wonder if that will be one of the small changes now that there’s a kickstand makes it look more like a tablet.

Mario Maker or a Nintendo Roblox clone would be good use cases for a mouse but I think it’s the rare to have a game someone would would sit at a desk and work on. But I think most people play their switch on the couch or handheld. Unless they can get the optical sensor to work on uneven surfaces (like couch armrest), I think it the feature may wear out its welcome.

woah ds ports using mouse controls for the bottom screen would actually be dope

I’ve definitely been thinking about this one, too. I never got to play it on DS, so I was excited for it to come to the Switch, but I personally found it to be borderline unplayable and never got anywhere with it
