OLDSFLASH: Video Game OLDS -- Original Unreleased Softo News & Leaks

No video game news or new games gets me excited as much as gigaleak type stuff where unreleased games for old hardware are revealed. I already know many of us here agree with that. This thread is for news about old stuff like that.

This week, I think there has been a significant leak of Game Freak data. This comes at a time where I may be peaking in Game Freak obsession, which is saying something after a lifetime obsession.

I recently learned, from this very good video, the true story of the Nintendo Power service, its goals, its failure, and what could have been. TLDR what could have been was many more amazing golden era SFC remakes of NES and Game Boy games.

The relevance-- one thing that leaked is a SFC remake of Game Freaks 1989 Family Computer game, Quinty.

1999, the same year Gold and Silver released. I don’t need to describe hoow precious any non-Pokemon software from Game Freak pre-2010’s is.
I’m not a huge fan of the gameplay of Quinty. I own a CIB copy for Family Computer, but don’t find it to be very fun compared to, say, a Clu Clu Land. But the art was Ken Sugimori’s signature style, and some characters like the Swimmer would go on to appear in Pokemon Gen 1 and 2! The prospect of a Super remake is exciting because it could fix many annoying things about the original, and make it more fun.

I have yet to even delve into this new leak, I’m just getting started. But something else I saw first which clued me off was Pokemon gen 3 game box manufacture assets, meaning the graphic layers which were sent to production to create the game cartons/boxes. This means that the data is now available to accurately and perfectly recreate and manufacture every detail of the game boxes, including holographic / reflective layering of the cardboard.

Personal General Life Statement:
I have TOO MUCH open in tabs and too much pokemon research. No amount of coffee will help. I’m overworked. I need at least three eight hour days of research to even begin catching up. I don’t have enough free time anymore!

Ok this one is officially being dubbed TERRALEAK and it also contains modern leaks like Switch 2 stuff which is relevant over in the other gamer news thread. But of course this thread is here for future “retro” leaks, for example when the day finally comes that we get our hands on a MOTHER3.N64

I don’t even have the ROM yet and luigiblood uploaded the entire SPC soundtrack.

the Doc’s word on Quinty:

"The “Quinty” software for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (hereinafter referred to as SFC) was a project that was active between 1996 and 1998.
The project was active from 1996 to 1998. The software was intended to be sold through Loppy, a service offered by Lawson.
Unfortunately, the software was not released.
Quinty” was Game Freak’s first commercial software, and ‘Quinty’ for the SFC was also developed by the company’s president,
Quinty” for the SFC was also a project started by the president’s voice.

The purpose of this proposal is to revive “Quinty” for the SFC once again.
We are aiming to revive the game on Nintendo’s newest hardware, the Wii.
However, it would be difficult for Game Freak to assemble a new team for this purpose.
Instead, we will once again complete “Quinty” for the SFC."

Is Time Extension basically the best site for “retro news”?
