No video game news or new games gets me excited as much as gigaleak type stuff where unreleased games for old hardware are revealed. I already know many of us here agree with that. This thread is for news about old stuff like that.
This week, I think there has been a significant leak of Game Freak data. This comes at a time where I may be peaking in Game Freak obsession, which is saying something after a lifetime obsession.
I recently learned, from this very good video, the true story of the Nintendo Power service, its goals, its failure, and what could have been. TLDR what could have been was many more amazing golden era SFC remakes of NES and Game Boy games.
The relevance-- one thing that leaked is a SFC remake of Game Freaks 1989 Family Computer game, Quinty.
1999, the same year Gold and Silver released. I don’t need to describe hoow precious any non-Pokemon software from Game Freak pre-2010’s is.
I’m not a huge fan of the gameplay of Quinty. I own a CIB copy for Family Computer, but don’t find it to be very fun compared to, say, a Clu Clu Land. But the art was Ken Sugimori’s signature style, and some characters like the Swimmer would go on to appear in Pokemon Gen 1 and 2! The prospect of a Super remake is exciting because it could fix many annoying things about the original, and make it more fun.
I have yet to even delve into this new leak, I’m just getting started. But something else I saw first which clued me off was Pokemon gen 3 game box manufacture assets, meaning the graphic layers which were sent to production to create the game cartons/boxes. This means that the data is now available to accurately and perfectly recreate and manufacture every detail of the game boxes, including holographic / reflective layering of the cardboard.
