@killy Thank you very much. I took the invite. Going to see the handles as soon as I can to share them here (sorry, I’m tired as hell).
is it worth getting brain addicted to another poison site? I‘m curious but this also feels like one of those "touching the burner to find out if it’s hot" things
@deepspacefine From what I saw when I looked yesterday, this site is exactly the same as Twitter. If your problems with Twitter run any deeper than who is on it and who owns it, then there’s nothing there for you. The style of posting is the same; what people post about is the same, etc, etc. It is for people who enjoy Twitter but were pushed away by its poor moderation and bizarre technical decisions, not for anyone looking for something new. So, to answer your question, if you were addicted to Twitter, you will get addicted to this in the exact same way.
ah why not:
@copysave.bsky.social
thanks @Chopemon used the ail3d one
@wickedcestus I’m allured by the possibility of recapturing what twitter was to me circa 2010-2013. I’m begrudgingly considering the possibility of recapturing what twitter has been for me for the last few years (very useful for work). Your explanation gives me a clearer idea of what to expect (thanks!) but no clearer indication of what I want haha
I might as well use now as an opportunity to ask the question I’ve had for the past decade: how does one actually use bluesky as anything more than a semi-functional RSS feed? That’s the main thing I’m curious about. I remember feeling I was late to Twitter all the way back in 2011. Within about a week of observing it, there was a clear demarcation between the people who say things, and the masses who reply and either are ignored or made fun of for being reply guys or whatever (obviously reply guy was a later coinage, but I remember being scared of being one long before I had a word for it).twitter
It’s not an unpleasant feeling to type in the names of artists I liked once into the search bar and see that they’re all here, with follower and post counts that actually feel “human sized”. But that doesn’t change the fact that I have no idea how to actually post! There are no prompts, no discussion topics, just other people’s conversations that I’d find weird entering. Do I just… list all my hot takes on a notepad, then reword them in the punchiest way I can think of? I feel like I need remedial tweet schooltweet
that is absolutely what a lot of people do! I just post fun video game nonsense because there’s not enough of it on there, that’s my strategy.
@Mitch thank you! I used the 3rd one.
I’m here now. I left Twitter for many reasons so I’m not sure if I’ll use Bluesky yet but we’ll see…
@Mitch thanks! i used the 4th one
@hellomrkearns these are all still good fyi
I imagine twitter works differently if you want a public presence, but I’ve got a private account followed by like three friends and I just write whatever comes to mind. It’s more or less my journal. My last tweet was about how I think I can hear my own blood sometimes. It’s usually where I go to throw away thoughts I don’t want anymore.
