I‘m @nemoide.bsky.social for anyone interested.

IDK if there’s still a need for invites based on what I‘ve seen earlier in this thread bit I have plenty for folks in need: don’t be shy about DMing and asking for one!

i appreciate all the recommendations as well

My feeling using Bluesky is like my imagination based on stories I‘ve heard of various Chinese facebook clones like 人人网/校内网 that lots of people migrated to after facebook was banned in China in 2009. My friend leaned over just now and saw me scrolling through and said “I thought you said you deleted your Twitter” and I was like "this isn’t Twitter, it‘s bluesky“ and they asked ”what’s the difference?“ and all i could say was ”well, this one requires an invite code." There is something interesting though about a network composed entirely of exiles

The other alternative social network i have the most familiarity with is neocities, which was started in the early 2010s as a direct reaction against stuff like twitter, trying to bring back the feel of the personal-homepage internet in the late 90s early 2000s (unfortunately it seems a lot of people have taken that too literally, so a lot of the most followed sites are contentless 90s-core pages). Bluesky on the otherhand feels like it's trying to hearken back to twitter from a few years ago, the exact same thing neocities was reacting against. i guess in the end these visions of the internet aren't mutually exclusive -- they can compliment each other.

It's interesting to compare with the current Chinese social media landscape, which is composed of a few big platforms that mostly don't link outwards (with Weibo being the big exception, though it too tends to discourage links to other websites). Wechat's public accounts sort of feel like "what if the internet were composed entirely of Substack", with articles disappearing from the public memory and basically becoming unfindable after a month or so, which results in people writing the same articles over and over. This is ultimately what Elon Musk's X wants to be, I guess.

I don‘t have invites yet, but this is my handle: @faildeguionista.bsky.social. It’s the same I use on Twitter, but mind I'll write in Spanish sometimes.

This is probably one of the reasons I migrate out of Twitter. The other one, and I don't know if that is true, is that I feel this is also going to be a big experimentation field to implement AI as an usage tool for extracting all of our information into other settings, something that I find very uncomfortable. I have yet to decide which is the platform that will adjust better to me, but I think maybe it's a thing of being more open and flexible, I guess. I watched recently _Intimacies_ by Ryuusuke Hamaguchi, and at the end of the second act (which is a play) it was fun to see a transgender poet (Etsuko, which was my favorite character in the play) fiddle with Twitter to write and pass a poem through several tweets, flooding the timeline as an experiment. Mind you, this is a 2012 movie, so this was when Twitter was at their beginning stages, but I want to find my mojo and see which is the way I want to use my social media, too.

It's rare and maybe I'm mumbling, but I needed to get this out of my head for a while.

Didn't know I had these! Might as well share them with the folks around here

Sure do wish Bluesky would let you mute words. My twitter feed is very heavily curated with muted words so I don‘t get any news, politics and outrage. I get all of those things from other sources but they key thing is that I choose when and where. I want my social media feeds to just be cool stuff to chill out with. Having news and outrage blasted at me is really bad for my mental health and I need to elect to engage. For a while Bluesky was chill but now the outrage is being reposted into my timeline and I don’t want to use it anymore.

@“Dunkr”#p136228 thanks! i took the 3rd code!

This is my account in case you guys want to give a follow! Thinking I'm gonna do English first here, or at least bilingual as opposed to full on Spanish like my Twitter account.

Also have a couple of new invites if someone needs them, otherwise I'll share them with friends.

@“kory”#p137252 Thank you! I used the last code on that list.

Appreciated!
