for me bluesky is nice because the feed is what i want it to be, not what some ghoul thinks it should be. i see the people i follow, what they repost, and that’s it. the moderation filters take care of anything that may permeate that, and so do the muted words/tags list. it’s the one social platform i can get on and see what i want: people who are passionate about gaming.

I’ve suddenly been followed by an influx of spam / porn accounts but upon blocking them they’re still counted amongst my follower count. Is this something that’s inherently part of Bluesky that hasn’t been resolved yet or is there something that I’m missing?
I understand that the platform has only really experienced a big influx of users recently and might not have had to deal with this sort of thing yet but it’s wild that my follower count is currently 60% blocked porn accounts.

tangential to this thread but probably relevant right now: if you’re looking for a method of twxttxr mass-purging that won’t cost you anything and doesn’t require a third-party app, this user script works wonders—it’s specifically designed to work in tandem with files from twxttxr’s data export, so grab those beforehand if you can, but there is an option to go ahead without 'em; it’s slow, but it works.

I’ve been thinking about hopping on the Bluesky train for a place to post art. Anyone have experience with the Art Twitter of Bluesky? Does this website also just toss everything down the algorithmic blackhole if you don’t game the system everyday?

I’ve sought out some artists for commissions there, & it seems to be a pretty active community – I follow some artists & some follow me, & I see a good amount of art when I scroll around

There are lots of artists, and no secret rules - the main feed is just posts you flow in order. You have to switch to other feeds (like discover, etc) if you want to have an algorithm tell you what to see. It’s nice!

I don’t know if it’s a bug so much as it’s just the way things are currently setup on Bluesky. It sucks but appears to be how the platform works at present, and I hope they change / fix it

I’ve made the jump! Turns out I had already made an account to reserve my name, so I changed my handle. I’ll be slowly digging through older art to post over the next while.
It’s hard finding everyone I used to follow. Many of them are still on Instagram or Twitter only but I’m looking forward to a social network not (yet) full of, well, Twitter Things™.

Yeaaah I’ve already cut back on it because the Discover feed is rough. It’s nice that you can have a bunch of others, but I like it for finding new people to follow. I don’t even interact with the political content so I guess it just shows it to everyone?

I’ve just had to come to terms with the fact that this type of social media just isn’t for me. Bsky was exciting at first but quickly just started becoming mini-twitter in terms of me seeing a bunch of stuff I don’t want to see. Twitter still is very much worse because of all of the garbage that’s allowed on there but I think I’m just not interested in this kind of thing anymore at all.

That’s my guess. And it’s weird, because it feels as though it didn’t always. But that might only be my perception. Still, it kinda proves to me that I don’t really need social media in my life, lol.
