@“andrewelmore”#p125863 dude you nailed it. Coded Arms was something I‘d never find on a top X games to play on PSP list but I was drawn to it out of curiosity for that early lineup. I immediately had a similar reaction to it as I did playing Quake III on Dreamcast, but to your point, it gets easier to play as you keep going.
Whoa that mouse input video is nuts. It’s so much faster and smooth than when I stumble my way through.
@“andrewelmore”#p125874 that makes more sense to me!
What have I done
@“tomjonjon”#p125944 dude if everyone on here got way into Ace Combat I would be so excited.
If we wanna stay on topic, Ace Combat X on PSP is phenomenal. I even found an old promotional t-shirt for it lol. Granted, I don't wear it cause it's not black, but y'know.
And here I‘ve been playing After Burner on PSP and forgetting all about Ace Combat X. Let’s party y'all.
@andrewelmore what color is the shirt?
This thread‘s really making me want to bust out the PSP Go, but it’s also making me just want to boot up PPSSPP so I don't have to deal with the loading times and screen quality.
The PSP will always hold two large spaces in my heart: The first time I finished Chrono Trigger (PSP version, loads and all), and the system I stayed up til 4am playing for months trying to Solo grind everything in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
What a magical system.
@“Fred Wood”#p125974 I tried Chrono Trigger on this and I think it might be the reason I still haven't finished that game.
Was Peace Walker worth the grind? I haven't played it yet and was always bummed I wouldn't have the local connectivity element starting it today.
@“dracula”#p125979 I would not recommend playing the original Peace Walker when the HD Collections exist. The aesthetic is wonderful on PSP, but dual analog controls makes it a much better game.
@“andrewelmore”#p125972 The series has been on my to play list for a while. I have physical copies of 1, 4,5 and 7. It's just a matter of being in the mood and not playing anything else. As I have lamented on these forums before - THERE ARE TOO MANY VIDEOGAMES TO BE PLAYED.
@“dracula”#p125973 How is Afterburner on PSP?
@“tomjonjon”#p126051 it’s pretty dope and about what I expected going in. I think it effectively recaptures the arcade game experience and the plane/(limited)customization options you can unlock add to the desire for continuing the campaign or replaying stages. It’s really fast but you get the hang of it pretty quickly.
@“dracula”#p126071 I’ll give it a few spins. I have always been bad at Afterburner though. It’s awesome that Sega gave the PSP that and Outrun 2006.
I'm a bit dismayed to find that Afterburner can only be controlled using the analog nub. While I understand why, I find using the nub to be very uncomfortable.
I’ll be the freak on a leash here and say I will only play Peace Walker on psp hardware. It is so cool and makes my psp feel like the ultimate device on earth. I like the controls and pretty much 100%’d the game on hardware in 2015 and was going through every mission with just a banana doing hold-ups. It was very relaxing.
Very good audio mixing for headphones! The WALKMAN analogies are very strong.
@“tomjonjon”#p126247 I didn’t articulate that but I think the ease in which you can overcorrect with the nub is what creates that sense of speed and while I got used to it, I agree that it’s not comfortable.
I’m curious if anyone has good recommendations for games that use the nub well.
@“dracula”#p126467 My issue with the nub is its positioning on the system. I always feel like I'm going to drop it when making heavy use of said nub. Its a bummer.
@“dracula”#p126467 Dissidia feels great with the nub. Also gitaroo man. Though I haven't played PSP gitaroo man since 2007 or whatever, after getting the PS2 original I never went back.
