Punching Steam Deck

Update: my steam deck suddenly died and I’m mailing it back to Valve today.

@“docky”#p82609 That sucks. Are you getting a replacement or a refund?

I was talking to one of my buddies that has had his for a couple of months about the issues I'd had with mine; he said he hadn't had any real problems but I think I shat him up a bit when I mentioned unceremoniously random shut-downs and games quitting back to dashboard as he said that had happened to him once a few days prior.

Valve still haven’t sent the replacement. I wonder how long it will take!

@“docky”#p84033 This is precisely what scares me. I received the confirmation mail and I don't know what to do.

@“docky”#p84033 How long have you been waiting? My refund took about 10 days to process once it arrived.

Haven't had any issues with mine, but sucks that others have :frowning:

Guess this might help ease some worry???

They‘ve partnered with iFixit to make parts available too (with lifetime warranties), which is a nice move. I haven’t had any issues with my Steam Deck (yet, at least) but it's good to have parts available just in case.

I have a Steam Deck waiting and I really don‘t know if I want it. I mean, I love emulation and portability and having my laptop doing less things, so the comfortability is a nice plus, but I’m wondering about whether to buy it or not. If that came in March I would have bought it, but I thought I would receive the notification in March and the mail came… yesterday. Shit, I don‘t know what to do since now I’m on the fence between this and the XBox Series.

@“LeFish”#p84301 my replacement Steam Deck arrived yesterday, which is about 18 days after I sent the defective unit.

I looked out of curiosity – and the Steam Deck is still not available in my region and there is no word on if/when that will change.

It took about two years for the Valve Index VR thingo to be available here, so I don't expect it will be any time soon.

hot tip for any Steam Deck havers and good game likers here

The very easy to find abandonware PC port of Outrun 2006 that Sega stopped selling looks and runs perfectly on this thing. You just add the config and exe to Steam on the desktop, go back to the deck UI, open the setting and force Proton compatability, change the config settings to display the correct resolution, and then run the game!!! FXT mod functionality seems like it isn’t there yet but there could be some potential solution I’m playing around with.

Great idea, I was just thinking about putting coast 2 coast on here because I forgot about that port.

Right now my deck is basically a Game Gear 2 though

My steam deck is my bedtime yakuza machine. I got Like a Dragon: Like a Dragon (that‘s the canonical name now, right?) free on PS+ a while back and decided to check it out after hearing good things. Halfway through I realized I really just wanted to play the game not on a couch, but in bed under the covers. (I had this realization while 10 hrs deep into the business management sim mini game). So I bought a steam deck and Yakuza 0. Now I just play 30-45 minutes before bed, in bed. It’s beautiful.

(sometimes, I also play gunsport while on long phone calls with my boss)

@“deepspacefine”#p103919 Hey same here, I‘m a big believer in the bedtime game, I love to play an hour or so of an RPG or other chill typically story-driven games before bed, and my current one is Yakuza 0 on Steamdeck. I feel like I never have time for longer games these days so having a designated bedtime gaming block has helped a lot with that, it’s how I played through Mother 3, the first few Phoenix Wright games, Live A Live, and a whole bunch more games- though I have a feeling I'm gonna be mostly using that time for Yakuza until I get caught-up on the series.

Just a little Steam Deck tip for desktop mode: hold Start button to toggle between the Deck’s controller functioning as an OS driver or a regular controller.

This is really great for browsing the web, using itch.io’s app, etc. and easily using the device as a computer and then as a game controller.

Love my Steam Deck, but the Bluetooth range on mine is rough. I‘ve messed around with it a bit (including using a separate bluetooth dongle plugged into the dock) and think I’m just going to order a 15 foot USB-C cable for my children to trip over.

@“Brett”#p104324 I was so confused when they added this in an update. I didn't know anything about the toggle and thought that my desktop mode controls were broken. Once I figured it out I found it to be super handy!

this is awesome. the comments are great too

@“treefroggy”#p107882 the post got moderated on reddit…

@“deepspacefine”#p107893 well reddit is weird, maybe it was fake? It was an external top loading bluray drive attached on the back of a steam deck, making it look like a sort of giant PSP
