Questions about Discourse and its functions

Hello everyone,

We’re splitting the old Technical Feedback thread, starting from when we moved to Discourse. There are a lot of questions in these first few days (as there will be in the weeks to come) which I think would be easier to address separately from a thread for long-term questions about Discourse’s quirks and potential technical issues (which we have not made yet, given how new everything is). We’ve also archived the old Tech Feedback thread as its questions and answers mostly pertained to Flarum.

Please post all questions and/or tutorial info for other users here!

You would think this site was super popular by how often it’s under “extreme load.”

After it took a hiatus, I’m seeing the extreme load notification again

I didn’t have multiple tabs open, but I did have poor reception, so maybe My phone was sending too many requests or something. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What’s weird is even though the alert says I should be seeing things like a logged-out user would, everything still looks normal, including notifications and unread count badges on topics.

I read through Tom’s entire test thread, and somehow it’s fascinating.

Is there an exact avatar resolution that can be uploaded to prevent the awful compression that happens to avatar images?

Or some other way of formatting?

Mild annoyance: I dislike seeing an unread badge thinking there is a new post in a thread, only to click it and find it the only new content is that the thread has been unpinned.

Does unpinning have to show as a new unread comment?

Yeah, that’s the latest one.

Every week when the new episode goes up, I’m fooled into thinking there a new comment in the previous thread. I am apparently incapable of learning, so I’ve turned to you for help.

I’m not sure if this qualifies, but I have an issue on Firefox Android with the positioning of the reply box.

On Chrome, when I hit reply, the keyboard pops up and the reply box is directly above. If I click out of the text box and click back in, it does the same.

On Firefox, when I click reply, the keyboard pips up, and the yext box scrolls up off the screen. If I click out of the text box and click back in, it scrolls off screen again. I can scroll it back down, so it doesn’t prevent posting, but it is a minor annoyance.

I don’t use any other discourse forums, but I haven’t seen this behavior anywhere else.

If you were viewing a thread for more than 6 minutes, that may have just been the horrible buzzer.

Here’s another similar issue on mobile. This occurs on both Chrome and Firefox, so I think it’s a different issue.

Anyway, when a post has an expandable text box that is very long, opening it puts me at the bottom of the text box, and I have to scroll up to the top to read it in order.

Example:

Small ones don’t really take up enough room for me to be able to tell the difference.

I don’t see a lot of collapsed text boxes around here really, so I haven’t noticed it happening until these long posts from Kiki.

This one works as it should for me.

Ok, so I did a quick check, and it looks like it’s only happening for me if it’s the most recent (i.e. bottom) post in a thread.

You’re probably aware (or it doesn’t matter since it’s been resolved), but popped one of these just a few minutes ago on both desktop and mobile:

What happened to the Patreon members group? Only 87 left?

I know I’m still a subscriber, but my group membership and flair are gone. Is this something that is being phased out?

Also, it says “pattern” :open_mouth:

@Tom, sorry for submitting so many bug reports. I’m playtesting IC forums, hoping for a mention in the closing credits.
