Should I not shave?

Thing is I have a 3.5 months old baby and he is used to the beard. I think that if I shave I will traumatise the dude. I mean I will sound the same and look different. For the perceptive ability of a 3.5 months old baby that could be something.

my vote is shave, but then before you reappear put on a fake beard and let the kid pull it off. Then they’ll understand

I had very long hair (down to shoulder-blades), and cut it when my eldest child was about 3. It was fine - he noticed the change, of course, but was mostly curious about the change.

It probably wouldn’t be a big deal though. What I’ve noticed with the latest baby is how much she may know me by smell. She spends half her time with me perched on my shoulder looking out or in my arms. Glasses, no glasses - she knows me. Babies have a great sense of smell. So if you do get the shave, just make sure you set aside and wear a familiar shirt, deodorant, or whatever else can signal your scent.

I don’t have advice on this, but when my first kid was pretty small I shaved off my beard (much smaller than yours) for whatever reason, and by coincidence got stuck at work overnight and didn’t see her for a day and a half. When she did see me, she screamed. Our relationship recovered, though.

Shave one side and then a few weeks later shave the other side, so the kid has time to adjust.

Also seriously considering not shaving to grow a goatee but also shaving my head so I can go as Rude (the character from Final Fantasy 7, not the social construct) for Halloween.

One challenge is the last time I grew a beard it took 10 days for my immediate family to even notice, so I’m not sure I’ve got enough time!

If your kiddo is only 3-months now is your chance to alter your appearance. Year-ish or so it’ll get rougher.

Shave it down in stages?

So it’s not a big shock but more of a gradual reveal.

Shave, then take the opportunity to introduce yourself as an entirely new character, free from the baggage and mistakes of the old guy. Keep a fake beard around in case you ever want to good cop / bad cop the situation.

Excellent!

Well I did grow it myself but followed the advice of a known Kotaku video on how to grow one asap in RDR2! I guess I could watch it again in a year and meanwhile stock some Hair Tonic.

Oh yeah. This reminds me of George Michael going Freeeeeedom!

lol good stuff

Oh thx. Good to know.

Firstly congrats on the little chap!

Having been bearded and babied myself, I can relate to this one and then some. The biggest change for your little man at this point won’t be the look, but the smell! Judging by your beard it’s well groomed so I’m assuming you are using a product or two on it, that’s what he’ll miss if you trim it off.

Take it down a bit, but use the same product. Then don’t use the product and see how he reacts. This will give him a chance to get used to the change of both the look and the smell. And you can enjoy the wind on your face again. Hopefully not his!!

I went all the way. Just took my Philips trimmer and put him next to me and let him touch the fallen beard.
He had a larf!

I will update profile picture with the result.
