Here is a podcast that I host along with two of my coworkers. I also edit the thing.
Made by @mindleftbody , the nicest thoughtful coolest thing anyone has ever made for me
My lighting is poor but there will be more photos
Hi all, I just announced my book! EVERY GAME IāVE FINISHED 14>24, featuring 52 of my essays of the last ten years releasing in print and digital on October 21st, 2024.
Hereās the annoucement post: https://ko-fi.com/post/Announcing-Every-Game-Ive-Finished-1424-Open-Fo-O5O4145PVB
Once again been hard at work on a few projects. One is a cute little microgame-ridden narrative adventure, and it has a demo available on Itch which you should play! I released my contributions to its soundtrack a few days ago. This one was a ton of fun to work on. Even aside from my involvement here, I hope everyone keeps an eye on the stuff this developerās got cooking up. Extremely talented, extremely imaginative, thereās gonna be more good stuff coming from them for a long time.
This whole past weekend Iāve been tossing together a soundtrack for another Touhou game jam project, which Iām finding myself wrapped up in more often these days. Those Touhou fans are a productive bunch! And they seem to like having me (and/or my music) around, which is nice. I wound up needing to do twice the workload I signed up for since the other musician suddenly dropped out mid-jam without warning anyone. Iām really proud of what I was able to accomplish with that kind of surprise and time constraint.
Thatās really cool
Hey, just wanted to share a little video essay I made on Kingdome Come: Deliverance, a really cool game with a really not cool creative lead!
Every Game Iāve Finished 14>24 is OUT NOW in paperback and Kindle at Amazon (https://amazon.com/dp/B0DJPFPVFT) and epub/pdf at ko-fi (https://ko-fi.com/s/c0d790b75c).
Thanks to anyone who picks it up!!!
Is there a meaningful difference for you between the two storefronts?
(Itās easier for me to click a button on amazon and have it magically appear on my kindle, but if you get more of a share from ko-fi I can load up calibre and do the file transfer dance)
I participated in a gamejam recently. First one I did in like five years.
Itās a weird lil horror thing. Check it out on Itch!
No meaningful difference particularlyābut if you buy on Amazon you are also able to give it a five star review
Hey folks, thought Iād share some of my work. This is a redesign of a D&D character of mine, an aasimar bard!
Sometimes I get stuck on projects where I have a particular goal. Drawing stuff like this is like comfort food for me lol.
Very cool!
nice work!!
dunno if this is the thread to post this in, but iāve been doing more freelance work recently and got a piece published about a dan salvato talk i went to in september. it was cool!
very well written and insightful. nice job.
Itās rare to see well-written articles about programming that are approachable by non-programmers and donāt make programmerās cringe at the same time. I think you managed that well.
I definitely feel Danās sentiment, too. Thereās a beauty and intimacy in using simpler tools for the job. Whether in games or in other kinds of software development there are so many layers of abstraction between the developer and the hardware that it often feels wasteful and pointless. Not to diminish a lot of good technological progress but I feel weāre really trying to reach a local optimum while losing sight of the bigger picture in a lot of cases.
Also this is the first time Iām hearing that Dan Salvato is making an Amiga game. The gameplay looks cool and makes me itch to play it in the way only something as straightforward as a bullet hell game can.
Made another one of those YouTube gaming videos, this time on some cool horror games I played recently I think people should check out. Check it out!
I drew a little pumpkin princess last night while I was watching Pumpkinhead because I was annoyed that the monster called āpumpkinheadā doesnāt have a pumpkin head.
Iām so smitten with her that I might learn GB studio and make a little game about her
I try not to be a nuisance with my writing around these parts, but I decided to do the nanowrimo thing this year. Iāll be publishing it as I go in real time, so if youāre interested in a serialized novel written live in front of an audience, you can find the first chapter here.
Along with that, Iām writing a running commentary on the novel as I write it. So if youāre interested in the process of writing a novel, or at least how I do it, you can read the commentary on the first chapter here.
For those who already subscribe to my newsletter and donāt know why they didnāt get these in your email, Iām trying not to clutter your inbox, so youāll have to manually subscribe to this section of the newsletter if you want to receive them in your email. But, like I said, this may mean youāll be getting two emails a day from me for the month of November. Otherwise, you can just check in at this link day to day or whenever you feel like it.
