Show me things you made.

This looks so sick! Love the wood texture on the bat top and the metallic finish on the buttons. Never found a nice enough enclosure myself to make that kinda thing work.

Also just noticed the ‘623’ on the lock lol

Now that I’ve seen the inside, did you reinforce where the buttons and stick are mounted? It looks like it has some give if it’s only attached to the briefcase and I’m guessing that wouldn’t feel good during play.

Also what’s the significance of 623?

The briefcase was built with a plywood core and it’s surprisingly strong, albeit with a slight bounce. The “give” you might be seeing is the foam rubber padding layer underneath the faux leather exterior which gives a nice comfortable cushion to rest against. The screw-in buttons bite in to the cushion leaving a nice gentle pillow pattern.

623 is the number-pad shorthand for :arrow_right::arrow_down::arrow_lower_right:, the motion for the most important motion in fighting games, the Shoryuken :grinning:

That makes more sense! Plywood seems a great choice to get as close as possible to that rock solid feeling you want from a good controller.

This is reminding me that I far more clumsily put together a guitar pedal from a kit with rather lacking instructions by (poorly) learning how to read the circuit diagram and then (poorly) wiring it up before (poorly) adding a switch I got from some old guy in Akihabara who refused to talk with the Google Translate speach-to-text, which was fine because he was still very nice and we made it work through gesturing and my (very poor) Japanese. Then I designed and printed an enclosure and hid the fire hazard inside.

Here’s a picture I sent to an engineer friend to ask advice. I figured it out eventually.

And a screencap from the video showing it off.

Frankly, the whole thing is cursed and your wiring makes me look like a drunk toddler. I was just happy to eventually get the circuit working.

Before posting it in the Discord I share with a few buddies, I asked if it’s okay if I post gore.

Thank you, I will say the wiring took me many nights after the kids were down for the evening and required all the hyper-concentration my ADHD could muster. Anyone can do it with the right tools and enough patience though.

i used to make pedals with a buddy of mine who ended up becoming a welder and mine always looked like total rats nests compared to his and would break down eventually. did you use a BYOC kit?

making pedals was a cool hobby, especially fuzzes since you could mess around with different transistors you’d find at surplus stores and the like.

It is BYOC, yeah. My buddy’s an electrician but had no bread boards so I used some cardboard instead. Don’t know how likely I am to do it again but it was fun to try. There’s SO much noise in the sound and I’m not sure how to ground it properly. It sounds really nice on my tiny Marshall with just a teeny bit of gain on the amp.

@MuToiD_MaN Well the hard work shows!

I like the sparing, but effective use of stretch and squash. Top right is my my favourite; lady’s got swagger.

Thank you!

I rather like her myself, which is why I have her as my avatar.

I posted a bit more info about her a while back in this thread, if you’re interested.

Oooohhh good stuff. Have you since tried taking the project a little further? I will say, as someone who spent all of Saturday figuring out how to implement a hotbar, Unity is pretty beginner friendly. Gamemaker even more so.

i was actually just thinking about this the other day for some reason. as i believe i said before, super cool project you got going. everything i’ve seen has been evocative.

Honestly, I haven’t. I’m vaguely considering the RPGmaker route, though I imagine that will seriously limit me from doing everything the way I want.
