Nice cover for Sonic Superstars in Famitsu.

It’s actually way better than the package illustration of the game, which fortunately has a retro-style alternative inner cover.

Speaking of retro-style illustrations, here is Sonic The Screen Saver.

Has anyone here heard the Japanese VA for the original Sonic Adventure?
it’s legitimately funny. Just watch the first cut scene for tails story in Japanese and you’ll know what I mean.
Been doing some diggin on the Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure. There‘s more info than ever before, yet the game still has mysteries left. Here’s a few inconsistencies I found:
Chao Island claims that the Lazynut has an unused graphic in the game:
https://chao-island.com/guides/sonic-adventure/chao-adventure/fruit (see bottom of page)
but the image link is broken. This doesn't seem to be stated anywhere on TCRF page for the game.
TCRF says that the Mystic Ruins Chao garden is the only garden accessible during a time of day other than daylight, but during those times the garden displays daylight, even when it is night in the adventure field. **I've found this to be completely incorrect!** I was just playing the other day when I entered the mystic ruins chao garden and it had night time lighting! What the hey?
It is still unknown what encountering E-102 Gamma in Chao Adventure does, if anything.
@“treefroggy”#p136558 yehhh on my last playthrough i tried, couldn‘t get into it - it’s not bad, it‘s just not the familiar kind of wacky i expect from the english VA i guess?
which is funny, because the first time i played SA1 was in a comic shop in like ’98 with an import setup, i wanna say. i tried my best to look away but watching someone run up a building blew my mind, i‘d been wanting sonic back since S&K and this was so hype! plus, outside the cartoons, we didn’t really have a voice for sonic yet, so i'm sure just hearing one was really great
I have been playing Sonic Superstars for the past few days. I like the physics. There is some creative stuff with the levels. I find the different characters interesting to play and compare. The music is pretty good but not as ear-catching (?) as Sonic Mania’s soundtrack on a first listen.
On the downside, the stages flow way less intuitively and creatively than Sonic Mania’s, and I don’t find the Emerald gimmicks very interesting – honestly, I keep forgetting they are available. The game sometimes feels forced to remind you "hey! you could use an Emerald power here!" which seems to be an accessibility solution answering a game design problem. That badge system from Mario Wonder seems like a much smarter implementation of a similar idea.
It’s an OK old-school Sonic experience. I suspect kids would not understand why play this instead of Frontiers (if anything Sonic at all).
Good comparison of Sonic 2, Sonic 2, Sonic 2 and (lest we forget) Sonic 2 on the Nintendo Switch.

@“hellomrkearns”#p142131 there are dozens of us longing for more home movies, dozens
I'm enjoying this new apple arcade one, anyone else been able to try it? Having to replay the levels with an emphasis on speed have been the most fun for me.
The music is uninspired unfortunately, the weakest part of the package imo
@“palo”#p143834 I sure have been eyeing that trailer, which pops up whenever I go to the App Store. Bummer to hear about the music, because good (or at least bad in a fun way) music is a pretty essential part of the Sonic The Hedgehog experience, I think!

When people complain about the Sonic Advance series, saying it is not similar enough in physics and gameplay to the classic sonic 2D games, they are completely glossing over Sonic Advance 1.
Sonic Advance was the last sonic game to have classic style item boxes, sonic‘s foot loop animation, and a couple other things. It was also the first one to have that kind of stuff in a long time, basically since Sonic Pocket Adventure. Speaking of Sonic Pocket Adventure, I’m not sure to what degree the two are linked, but they do walk almost precisely the same line. Right down to the special stages being cool but totally unfairly difficult by the 6th and 7th emeralds.
Sonic Advance is also dope as hell because while having the classic formula, along with tails and knuckles, you have a very well designed Amy to play in 2D for what I can only fathom being just about the first and only time (until very recently with sonic superstars). Her moveset is very well thought out, provides a unique challenge that is very fun and balanced. Her animations are really cute, and unlike tails and knuckles, she's the only one besides sonic who can also grind rails in Sonic Advance 1. Her moveset is entirely based on her moves in Sonic Adventure, but her design is based on a post Sonic Adventure 2 art direction. Very cool! Neat to play as a different hedgehog for once.
Here's her spritesheet to parse, if that's your thing, or just [look at some gameplay!](https://youtu.be/FVf1Qpicp3s?si=5U8Pj3qNtWkuLREg&t=69) She's so unique at times it can feel like you're playing an entire different game. Not necessarily much easier, just adjacent. In some ways she is like Maria in Rondo of Blood, but in other ways not so much. I think that's more the role Cream the Rabbit plays in Sonic Advance 2. Cream's command style chao attack is even similar to Maria's dove attack.... think about it....

I was interested in just how many grind rails there are in Sonic Advance, because they seem to be very intentionally placed and few and far between, unlike SA2 which uses them very often. In SA1 there‘s only 5 zones that have rails, for a total of 8 rails!
Of course because sonic fans are fanatic, here’s a video of all the rails, including Amy running some of them, which rules :o)
https://youtu.be/OtNh7nOd6jg?si=ziIrInFccTxqtgQE
So many little secret details in Sonic Advance 1 also. It‘s the gift that keeps on giving! I didn’t know you can do a special flip at the end of a rail with sonic… I‘m still not even sure how it’s done!
