Tell me anything

@MoH would Micky Mouse in a zip-up black hoodie jump in to save me if I were about to die?

Very interesting to think that the forum's software platform of flarum will be dying today, on this, Good Friday, the day the LORD Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world. Surely this can only be significant

@Gaagaagiins the forthcoming death was just announced today actually, so this would be more akin to the garden at gethsemane

Insert Credit forums confirmed as Orthodox

@Gaagaagiins (me scanning the old believers wiki page unsure of how far i want to take the joke)

Been thinking about how the church might get crazy in 9 years cause it will be the 2000th anniversary of jesus dying.

@ē©“ good. the church has been sober and rational for far too long!

@ē©“ I tend to focus more on the resurrecting part (I’m a glass half-full kind of person)

kinda forgot about him resurrecting tbh

Uh oh, looks like our forum is going to in undergo a messy religious schism

@HyggeState oh wowww ok i was able to get into that secret menu, but hitting the * option button won't get rid of that lingering ad which is a bummer

@Gaagaagiins okay so we had the last supper and the crucifixion on the same day……normal world……

Letting everybody know: in Discourse you can return exact matches on multi-word text strings by searching for something ā€œin quotation marks.ā€ (I’ll figure out some better place to put this info later…)

I guess it doesn’t really matter now, but I was always unsure about how to actually pronounce ā€œFlarumā€ā€¦ Is it with bright vowels, ā€œFlaer-uhm,ā€ or dark vowels, ā€œFlaar-uum?ā€ Bright vowels makes sense because it’s like ā€œFlareā€ and ā€œForumā€ (as much as that could make sense), but the dark vowels… Don’t sound stupid… In any case, thanks for switching to Discourse, which is a real word with a known pronunciation. I’m sure that was the highest priority when considering a replacement

Flarum always looked like a Latin word to me, and at least according to the Church Latin pronunciation rules I was taught, if it were a word in Latin it would be pronounced with the dark vowels. To be more precise the first vowel sound would be like the first vowel sound in ā€œawesome,ā€ and the second would be the long double o sound like ā€œdoom.ā€

In my head, though, I usually split the difference and did the bright vowel on the first syllable and the dark vowel on the second syllable, because it was more fun that way.
