They were 49.99 which seems about right to me. I kind of wish that I picked one up.
i needed you to know that iām late as hell here, but this memory card rollercoaster was a wild ride that ended up with me seeing the mixed list of PSX titles this person had played and thinking āoh yeah, iād be that personās friend, thatās an interesting weirdo right thereā
yeah! itās fun. Iāll do it more if I find more memory cards.
Had some really good luck today!
I got some lunch with my partner and we spotted a yard sale on the walk back to our car ā I found a cool oversized fuzzy jacket for $5. THEN as we were loading our pup into the car to head back home I spotted a CRT on the curb across the street.
Dropped in at Goodwill on the drive home to grab a test DVD and found a cool tank for $6.
The picture on the CRT looks good but the DVD tray seems to be jammed. Need to find a VHS to testā¦ Goodwill didnāt have any.
Just ordered an HDMI to composite converter, going to try hooking up my Switch and then maybe its finally time to invest in a Sisterā¦ Very excited to potentially join the CRT club!! Looks like there might be a little rust on the component inputs, but hopefully thereās no issues.
Whatās the model number on that one? I wanna do a bit of research and IF ideally it takes 480p input over component, I have some recommendations on hooking up your Switch to it.
Thatās a good day, and welcome to the chonky ridiculous television (crt) club
The exposure stamp date is a nice touch.
So a fascinating read on the CRT data base
Your stuck with composite inputs. Which means you can get one of those standard HDMI to Composite downscaler devices and it will work, though it will likely be laggy. Though obviously this is one of those how much do you notice kind of things.
I have been using a chain of Switch HDMI (set at 480p) to VGA to SCART into a Tink5x, then downscaled to 480i HDMI out to VGA and into a VGA to Component converter into my component ready Toshibas. You could in theory at the final step use an adapter like this one on Amazon.com for the lowest latency. THAT SAID even this converter alone should do a better job than the cheapo converters as the push buttons allow for much more customization. I think it was CopySave who recommended it to me in the CRT ownership thread (https://forums.insertcredit.com/t/lets-discuss-crt-tv-ownership/)
For the FPGA platforms, you can get adapters that connect to the signal right out of the VGA of the output board. As always Mister Addon is not always the cheapest, but the products are of high quality MiSTer FPGA YC Active Encoder Board ā MiSTer Addons.
BUT what I am fascinated by is that the set has an SD card slot (maybe memory stick?) and plays mp3s and WMA files. The manual is in the CRT database page, but check this out
If you could batch convert a bunch of video files, this might be an excellent way to experience them.
I find it pretty helpful to have a ārealā calculator available at all times. One that actually respects order of operations and has trig functions. I know I can take the cube root of something by raising it to the 1/3rd power, but it seems so sloppy when that cube root button is right there! The graphing functions arenāt as important as the ability to see multiple lines in your calculation stack IMO.
That being said, I may just be a massive dork.
Oh nice! This same TV was on marketplace near me. I wanted to get it but then Iād have to get rid of my crt thatās too big which I never want to move again.
On another note I found the top of a city street light at a thrift store. It was 20 dollars so I couldnāt exactly not get it. It takes a mogul base lightbulb and has a giant transformer so Iām guessing it takes either a fluorescent or plasma bulb
Edit the 25 hps marks that it uses a 250 watt high pressure sodium bulb also known in the American National Standards Institute as an S50.
Thank you so much for this thorough breakdown - bummer about the 480p but Iām guessing thatās maybe a little more of a rare find?
I ordered the cheap hdmi to composite converter, so weāll see if the input delay is manageable. If not, the hookup to my Wacom at my desk was pretty great, so I can just stick with that.
A friend is lending me her GameCube and I might look into modding a wii. Iām so excited!!
a wii is a great pseudo sister fpga imo in that it has good emulation with the virtual console and it outputs on 240p.
thatās what i used to play games on my crt for years beforw getting a SiSTer!
have fun with your new crt!!!
Yeah, it may be because the design hasnāt changed since I was in middle school, but I love all the Texas Instruments calculator series. They also can be found for relatively cheap, and youāve got an advanced little pocket computer that can play games like block dude. Also I love a lil solar powered standard Casio calculator. I can punch in digits faster than by keyboard.
Iām old enough to have Opinions on calculators as a tool. And I never cared for the TI series. I really liked the HPs. I had an HP 48G that I used from 1997 in high school through engineering school and well into my professional career. And it died circa 2018 and I am still sad about it.
That being said, this TI-30X IIS is my second favorite calculator Iāve used intensively. Got me through grad school. Itās like, $15. Itās solar! I got the bright pink color and I can see that I left it on the table a mile away. Itās solar. Itās got a nice edit line. Great function set. I kinda want to buy the teacher pack of 10 and give them away as party favors.
I saw a casio color graphing calculator at a thrift store and almost got it because of your post.
That sounds cooler than what I got!
