Video game songs/jingles as ringtones

Not that anybody even uses custom ringtones anymore, but I remembered that I’d set my ringtone to this a while ago…

…and decided, what the hell, why not make an Insert Credit thread along these lines? Other songs that would probably make for a good ringtone:

(Mainly the first seventeen seconds)

And who could ever forget:

I once had a roommate who was a real dorito and mountain dew gamer and had the Ocarina of Time “Hey Listen” as his text tone, and it was very annoying to hear it chirping all the time.

I want to say his girlfriend had a Katamari ringtone, but I only remember hearing it once or twice. I’m listening back to the xbox katamari soundtrack and can’t pick out exactly what it was… but it was something like this

I use some from Pullblox (3DS) and Nintendo Land (Wii U)

Just little jingles captured from game/video/audio.

My current ringtone is the Arms theme:

I don’t even own a copy of Arms, this theme just rules and is very very easy to hear coming out of a pocket

I really liked arms but the theme song may be better than the game

I used to have the Cave Story main theme as my ringtone about a decade ago, and in hindsight it’s not great as a ringtone (protip: the first 4 seconds are the MOST important part) but I was kind of gobsmacked when a friend was able to identify it purely on those first four seconds.

Very basic answer but Metal Gear Solid had an excellent suite of sound effects for phone notifications and ringtones. I went through some phases of using diagetic ringtones from various media. I remember I had the “pururin” ringtone from Welcome to the NHK for a while (though that’s not a video game of course).

I also had Phoenix Wright’s ringtone. Listening to it now, I realise I had it for a longass time because it’s really nostalgic for me.

my phone notifications are all totally silent, not even vibrations are on, but my alarm clock is this

For a long while I had the Persona 4 Social Link increase sound effect as my text message tone, felt appropriate.

I always have my phone on silent so I’ll only hear my phone ringtone when I have headphones in and my phone happens to ring, but when it does at least it’s this delightful horn-led piece from Croc.

Today I heard somebody using this during commute (!)

I always thought this would make a cool ringtome but felt I could miss some calls:

i’ve been thinking about switching to dreamcast menu sound effects.

Boring answer, but I had this as my ringtone for about a year. (Specifically, like… 2008.)

this reminds me i knew a guy in like…2010? with the metal gear [!] alert noise for his notifications

Death Stranding has some good phone noises, but I can’t see myself using them.

Yeah everyone has the same idea to use Metal Gear Solid noises on their phones in the 2000s but it was pretty cool to me too. I had a Sony candybar phone that was all screen on the front and slid up for the keypad and it let you customize a sound for that too so I got to add the codec open and close noises too. I think I actually got them from Konami through whatever Galapagos internet NTT DoCoMo had so I hope I didn’t pay actual money for it.

ahhh man I forgot that every character had their own lil ringtone when they called. cute touch! I keep seeing that the PS5 upgrade exists for death stranding, and even though I played the hell out of it on my PS4 when it came out, I keep thinking what about if I went back in with all the new stuff…

god I loved a phone where you could slide the top off to reveal a full qwerty keyboard with individual buttons and everything. wish that was a thing again, kinda

I’m starting to get nostalgic for pre-smartphone days dang that’s probably dumb. It’s not like I wasn’t already checking Facebook all the time and playing Final Fantasy IV After Years on a small screen in 2008 or whatever.
