What do you do for a living?

What’s your job? Be as vague or specific as you like.

My job is going around Tokyo and rebooting rich people’s computers.

I used to read through repair reports and get the data all in order on a big database and email people for more information so the FDA doesn’t yell at the company. Now I’m not doing much. Anyone in the MN Twin Cities area looking for someone with a bachelors in Chemistry?

I once read that whether people return shopping carts is the perfect metric as to whether they’re fit to live in a society: It’s easy to do, benefits everyone, and is the obvious correct choice.

If you don’t return shopping carts, you are not fit to live in a society. (Excluding exceptional circumstances.)

Anyway, my job is boring and I usually avoid talking much about it. I’m a business analyst which means basically nothing without context.

I manage businees at the business factory to ensure prompt production of business.

if you read that in the past 5 years then it was probably someone rewording a screenshot of /pol/. just worth keeping that in mind

on that note, the subculture with the worst success rate is white guys who come in wearing ethnat gear.
beard guy with rune tats? shoves it in the entrance expecting me to deal with it. same for old guy who came in with “its ok to be white” shirt, and for the guy with the suspiciously squeaky-clean 9%-patched biker vest, etc. for people who talk big game about “social cohesion” you’d expect the bare minimum…

I read it closer to 10 years ago but I’m not surprised. I used to work in retail way back and did carts too sometimes. I actually kinda liked it cause I got away from customers and got to walk around a little. Retail or food service are great jobs if you want to disillusion someone quick and teach them some basic empathy for essential workers.

I sit on a computer and be useful when people have questions and also do a dozen easy things that no one else knows how to do so I have a perceived value from that. It’s pretty boring though, would like a new job being useful for somewhere else.

I ensure that the company is able to continue functioning as a company.

I would like a new job but I make enough money now where it’s hard to start somewhere new at that rate. I’m not wealthy but I have become accustomed to a certain lifestyle.

I hated hated hated cart duty when I worked at a grocery store. It was 100deg F, there were thousands of people around honking cars, and you want me to move hundreds of pounds of carts without hitting anything?

I’m an architect who works on college buildings primarily. I like it despite the challenge and (relatively for the industry) low pay, because there is a REAL thing when you’re done and lots of people use it. One of my friends works in a building I worked on now! This is also why I don’t want to work on houses, because only a few people get to use it

returning shopping carts was a huge call in topic on a radio show i worked on, guaranteed lines full every time. the host was your standard afternoon radio jerkwad but i got him to come around to putting them away by pitching it as shopping cart bowling - how far away can you safely push that thing into the corral etc etc

im in school now and worked at a grocery store last summer doing all that maintenance stuff. it was a bougie store though so if i was out there and people were gonna just leave the cart they’d usually at least walk it up to me and say thanks

it was a pretty sick job, 10ish miles of walking a night and didn’t have to talk to anyone

i’m in grad school for creative writing and also work as an editor at a local food mag. it is a job/life that 12-year-old me would high five me for so hard and i am grateful for that pretty much every day (except for the days when people miss their deadlines and i have to be bossy)

which is to say: i also pretty much sit at my computer at home messing with words
