have you ever come across something so cool yet so expensive that it was out of reach?
There was an entire collection of love letters from World War 1. It had everything the couple sent one another during the soldiers’ time in the trenches. Photos, postcards, other ephemera. I would describe it as a perfect museum piece. I had to pass on it as it was (rightfully) $10,000. This was 3 years ago, I hope it found itself in a museum.
Finally got a PAL copy of Aquanaut’s Holiday.
Now my super specific regional release trinity is completed!
After spacing on ordering these for so long that I was afraid I’d missed out, I managed to find the Japanese region ones, which I assume are identical to the North American ones. They’re real cute!
This month’s vintage magazine arrived and it’s oh so sweet per usual. Love EGM and will take as many as the VGHF will send, but it’s nice having the switch up to Game Player’s this month, as well as the deep cut back to 1990. Can’t wait to read more about Bonk’s Adventure
Awesome! I just got your custom Signalis card this morning! I consider this the strongest recommendation to check a game out I’ve ever received hahaha. Thank you so much!
Ayyy, what a timing!
I hope you like it! I was feeling creative but I wasn’t sure how the print would turn out. Glad it’s okay. Signalis is actually on sale on steam at the moment! (at least here)
I actually have 7 more of those postcards because I thought it would be a waste to just have one printed and sent to me so if anybody wants one, hit me up!
I recently received the Sparkster plush I had ordered in the beginning of the year and then completely forgotten about. Nice surprise!
I got the Japan travel guide written by friend of @Chopemon
I really love it! My trip is in a little more than a month and it’s getting time to start booking a bunch of stuff, figuring out the cash situation, all that kind of stuff, and this book has been a huge help as opposed to billions of reddit threads. Info is concise and very accurate. Also has some great journal entry pages so that you can remember details or write about your experiences.
Also fell to the LRG dark side
Thankfully these are both pretty readily available so no real scalper prices. And they come with fun little manuals! I love these games.
I’d kinda given up on this arriving, it having been sent untracked a while ago, but yesterday in my letterbox I found:
A used PS1 gamesoft (I didn’t think to take a photo until after opening it).
Packaged in this DVD-style container with some kind of adhesive plastic stuck to it and tape sealing all the edges. I’m sure this isn’t interesting to the reader but this was super-hard to get open. Inside:
The SuperLite 1500 rerelease of Dezaemon Kids! Dezaemon is a series of shmup creator suites, and this is a simpler version for kids. But my main interest is not in the creator, but the bonus disc - the original release came with a second disc called Dezaemon Plus Select 100, containing 100 games submitted by users of the earlier release Dezaemon Plus. Among them was a version of Devil Blade, precursor to the recently released Devil Blade Reboot, which is what got me interested in this game. But does this budget rereleased have the Select 100?
According to the red star on the back, yes. But I was still a little unsure when I bought it if I would get it - it was sold as disc only and only had one disc. I’m not sure about this but the front and back cover print quality is kinda suspect. They might not be original, which doesn’t bother me because like I say it was sold as disc only.
Speaking of which, here’s the disc. The label on this also has a bit of a home printer quality, but I think it’s legit.
Turns out this version has both Dezaemon Kids and Select 100 on the same disc. Nice! I thought this would be the case but I wasn’t sure until I loaded it up. Probably would have been more sensible to just pirate it to check before buying or to just pirate it and not buy it. I was also a bit worried about finding the Select 100 in the menus given I can’t read Japanese but it turns out it’s an easy choice at the title screen.
Within the 100, Devil Blade is number 10. I think these first ten listed games were the top 10 as judged by whoever put the compilation together and the other 90 are not ranked. I should check out at least the others in the top ten as well, I guess.
And here’s the title screen of the game I was after, running on my stock PS1.
Edit: forgot to mention, the reason I wrote so much detail on this is that when I was looking for a copy of the game the reissue was much cheaper but I had a hard time figuring out whether or not it would have the 100 games with it. Hopefully in future if someone is trying to answer the same question they might find this post.
I haven’t played jumping flash 2 since before my town had a used game store and I was picking up my used games at the pawn shop. I still sometimes have dreams of finding a pile of forgotten games in the corner of some dusty second hand store.
OH wow!!! I really thought the select 100 wasn’t included in the lite version. That’s great! Heck, I should’ve bought the cheaper version myself.
Yeah, I think aside from being cheaper having both programs on the same disc seems better to me anyway.
Got these wonderfully pocket-sized editions of the Japanese light novel series Bye Bye, Earth as I’ve been working on the English version of the new anime adaptation (voicing Adonis, dude on the vol. II/III covers) – will pass them along to the English writers as well, it’s an extremely abstract fantasy world that we’re all kind of figuring out as we get animation coming in. But they sure are pretty, and they came with the almost requisite cute note from a Japanese seller
Previous owner lost their father and gave me their dad’s gameboys for about $40 each. All have some dirt but the shells are so textured and the screens barely have a scratch on them so I consider this an OEM jackpot. (only three of the gbs here are theirs, I put my own in the pic just to be maximalist about it)
also included her late father’s copy of zelda… with charming faded label.
his name was finn
I don’t remember if this is an endgame win condition or if this means there’s actually two dungeons left. does the final square never fill in since the game won’t save after the final boss?
Anyways, I offered to back up and send her a .SRM or .SAV of the cartridge’s save file so she can visit her dad’s save file any time and she seemed to really like the idea so I’m gonna finish doing that now.
@tokucowboy art style reminds me of the Magna Carta series on PS2
you are super right – Hyung-tae Kim did the covers for these editions, same artist that did the character designs for Magna Carta (Amano did the original Bye Bye, Earth character designs/cover for the first edition, but I like these little pocket novels)
yeah, I was gonna say if that’s not hyung-tae kim that’s somebody who’s really aping his style!
Little glimpse of the eventual fate of my games there, I guess. I hope if my kids do sell off my stuff one day it goes to someone who cares. That offer of the save backup is really nice.
