What's That Game? (20 Questions Edition)

>

@kory#16885 I was originally banking on the n64 Goemon sequel…it seemed to match almost everything, but I was hung up on the fact that the mecha section is actually first person. The split between the NA, EU, and US release dates really clinched it though…lets just say the number “1999” started to look really weird to me after staring at the wikipedia N64 release chart for way too long

Weirdly enough both of the _Goemon_ games as well as _Flying Dragon_ are strongly associated with each other in my head as "fun/weird games that I can't find in the ~ 100k pop city I live in but inexplicably are available for rental in the video store of the ~ 3k pop hometown of my mom and dad where I go every Christmas/Thanksgiving/Easter, who the hell is the person ordering these weird games in this tiny town 3 hours east of the middle of nowhere"

They probably would have mentioned it was on 64DD when asked about the console, if it was Doshin the Giant all along.

Ok everybody, I figured out what the next game will be. Your hint is:

**LOVE**

@treefroggy#16972 is it a Love de Lic or adjacent developer that’s closely associated?

As far as I'm aware, the developer is not related to Love de Lic in any way. I went through the credits to see if any individuals who worked on this game also worked on any Love de Lic related stuff, and from what I can see, there is no overlap whatsoever.

@saddleblasters#16989 Does this game stick within its own genre conventions? ie, is it a straightforward entry in its genre (like, say, a Final Fantasy or a Halo), or is it hard to define what it is because it has weird gameplay mechanics, in general?

@Gaagaagiins#16995 Does this game stick within its own genre conventions?

Interesting question. I'll say that, gameplay wise, it definitely fits into a genre and doesn't depart _wildly_ from that genre's conventions, but it does have a few unusual (though not unprecedented) innovations. It's certainly not a game anyone would hold up as its genre's prototypical example.

Yes, there is indeed some love going on -- though not necessarily between humans.

@Gaagaagiins#17019 Could this game be the topic of discussion in the Insert Credit Forums thread Hang Out Games Hang Out Places?

No, definitely not a hang out game! Not for me at least. It has a very strong setting, so it's conceivable that someone might want to hang out in this game's world, but it would be too stressful for me.

@Gaagaagiins#17019 Does it incorporate 3D graphics?

No, it is all 2D.

How heavily is violence incorporated into gameplay? If on one extreme you cannot harm a fly, and on the other we're talking like an on-rails arcade shooter where your only verb is Harm With Lethal Intent, and somewhere in the middle is say like a game with dedicated spaces for non-violent action and violent action that are clearly delineated (say like a Zelda game or an RPG where there is Town and Wilderness)

@Gaagaagiins#17034 The game is entirely violence. Everything you do involves either inflicting pain on others or avoiding their attempts to inflict pain on you. I will say that the violence fits the theme of the game/whatever point it’s trying to make slightly more than the typical 100% violence videogame.
